In May, one of the UK’s classic ’90s electro-pop groups Saint Etienne will release their eighth LP, with the rather legally descriptive title Words And Music By Saint Etienne. The first single “Tonight” had an ebullient “the lights are going down” techno lift; today we have “Answer Song,” which is still electronic though less late night dancefloor, as a stately song about making measured life decisions should be: “I’ll get an answer for you baby, I’ll get an answer for you soon / no one should settle for a maybe, I’ll get an answer for you soon.” She may go with you, but she has to be sure first. Pretty reasonable! Hear it at Pitchfork.
Words And Music By St. Etienne is out 5/21 via Universal.
