Divergent soundtrack

The soundtrack to the forthcoming big-deal movie Divergent has already produced a few fascinating songs, like M83′s soaring “I Need You” and Pia Mia’s Chance The Rapper/Clams Casino collab “Fight For You.” But the most intriguing song on the soundtrack-album tracklist was always going to be “In Distress,” which unites A$AP Rocky with the punishing French dance producer (and Kanye’s Yeezus collaborator) Gesaffelstein, and now we get to hear this. A song like this shows what might happen if and when the blaring industrial aesthetic of Yeezus leeches into the rap mainstream, and it turns out that it sounds like ideal sci-fi soundtrack fodder. More than anything, “In Distress” reminds me of “I Against I,” the Mos Def/Massive Attack collab from the Blade II soundtrack, and I mean that as a compliment. Listen below.

  1. Logged in just to say that “I Against I” was fucking great

  2. shit knocks

  3. This track sucks. Should have just kept the instrumental. Asap brings nothing to this. Gassefelstein is the only one that’s saving this.

  4. They need to mix ASAP Rocky’s vocals better. Like, come on now.
