Percussions (Four Tet) – “Blatant Water Cannon” & “Ascii Bot”

Four Tet

After SXSW, Four Tet was on my flight from Austin to Charlotte. I saw him sitting up in first class, feet stretched out, drinking Naked juice and reading The Goldfinch, all casually baller. He looked like a man who knows how to live life. But given the ridiculous volume of his recent output, I’m almost surprised he wasn’t putting together a new track right there on his laptop. In recent months, he’s been crazy busy, producing albums for Omar Souleyman and Neneh Cherry, working with Jamie xx and Terror Danjah and whoever else, throwing new music up on the internet all the time. He’s now planning to release a couple of new singles under his Percussions alias, and he’s shared two new tracks, “Blatant Water Cannon” and “Ascii Bot.” Both tracks are long and sprawling, and both. “Blatant Water Cannon” introduces experimental IDM textures to a thumping four-on-the-floor dance tune, while “Ascii Bot” is more of a straight-up banger with a beautifully shimmering synth loop. Stream both of them below.

Both singles are out 4/28 on Four Tet’s own TEXT label, as is Taraval’s Streetways EP.
