The Promise Ring

Late last year, we learned that emo pioneers the Promise Ring were planning to reunite for a few shows, with more probably on the way. The first of those shows went down Friday night in Milwaukee, the band’s hometown, and they played 26-song set jammed with classics. Rolling Stone has a glowing report on the show, and various fan-made videos are making their way to YouTube. To watch a decent-sounding clip of set openers “Size Of Your Life” and “Happiness Is All The Rage,” click here.

  1. While the Promise Ring said hello again, let’s not forget Parts & Labor said goodbye (with all three drummers)… weird weekend for the various phases of my music listening evolution:

    • It’s also kind of discouragingly humbling how this Promise Ring reunion story has steamrolled over the day on various news sites, as the particular combo details of citing of the Rolling Stone article, 26-song setlist and that exact YouTube clip were all research I gathered early Sunday morning for my blog, which then led to the story being retweeted several times (including The Promise Ring official.) But hey, let’s not give credit to the little blogs. They won’t notice. Just rape and pillage because no one knows they exist.*

*Note: Not directed at Stereogum in particular, but it’s something that’s been happening far too often lately and has me considering closing up shop since no one takes a small time blog seriously.
