Indie survivor Bill Callahan recently covered “Heaven Help The Child,” a history-minded 1973 song from country-music outsider Mickey Newbury. And now Callahan’s version has a video, a black-and-white single-shot thing that transposes Callahan’s face with an image of a tree. The video itself is minimal, but more than anything, it’s an excuse to hear Callahan’s cover, which is triumphant. Watch it below.

A split 7″ that features Callahan’s cover alongside Newbury’s original is out now on Drag City.

Callahan is so great.
I would listen to Bill Callahan cover Ke$ha. That’s how much I love him.
I’d listen to Bill Callahan collaborate with Ke$ha. I don’t even like the guy.
Bill Callahan is a total professional. So good.
