I know she's on hiatus at the moment but MITSKI
Also gotta share this great Ramones video. https://youtu.be/Whz_VoCS858
He was a lifelong friend of Joe Pesci and I think it’s no coincidence that Pesci’s character in Goodfellas that won him the Oscar was also named Tommy DeVito.
She recently announced she was signed to Chrysalis Records so maybe the delay was at least partially because she didn’t have a label.
Though memories of The Cosby Show have sadly soured in retrospect, I still think of the scene where Clair and the Huxtable kids visit Stevie Wonder in a recording session (I forget why they were doing that) and sing this with him as a really sweet moment.
There’s a lot I like about this song but it always kind of seemed a little unfinished to me, like it could have used an extra verse at the end or the second verse (which is more like one line) could have been longer.
Jenny has said recently that she's open to a reunion, I think she and Blake are on good terms. And Jason Boesel has been on a few of her solo albums too. Jenny's solo shows are excellent but she doesn't usually do a lot of RK songs, I'd also like to see them get back together for a chance to see all those old songs performed.
This brings a lot of opportunity for potential guests. Chris Frantz has his memoir out now and Spike Lee’s American Utopia film is coming later this year too.
I always get annoyed when I hear it on the radio and they cut it off before “Get Away” kicks in, that’s the best part! I didn’t realize that wasn’t on the single version.
Nels Cline’s dog!!!
Yeah, it was unfortunate to see him go but it also wasn’t the travesty some middle-aged liberals seem to think it is. I understand why he had to resign, it’s undeniable he did some inappropriate shit, I think he did the right thing, he seems to be doing okay for himself, and Dems kept the senate seat anyways, and elected a woman Tina Smith who probably won’t have any sex scandals coming out of the works.
I hate this but I hope that doesn’t stop Norah Jones from making more videos singing next to her fluffy dog. Just get rid of everyone else.
I really don’t see the appeal of Fleetwood Mac without Lindsey at all. They already tried that in 1990 and it didn’t work then either. Like I get that Stevie has a ton of devotees who will come see her no matter what but I think even they would admit Stevie is at her best when she and Lindsey play off each other. That whole dynamic is a giant reason why Rumours is such a classic. I’m sure Neil Finn can sing “Go Your Own Way” just fine but there’s no history there, you might as well call it a cover version at that point.
Here’s Mary Tyler Moore singing this song on her short-lived variety show along with young Michael Keaton and David Letterman. It is exactly as weird as it sounds! I remember Keaton being one of Letterman’s final guests on CBS and they showed this clip, causing Dave to hide under his desk. https://youtu.be/_FnFo4M6VWQ
I saw them a couple of weeks ago and it was a great show but something I definitely noticed was that Sleater-Kinney is very much a duo now. They have a new drummer but she is a background player. I thought that was as a result of Janet leaving and in respect to her (by not officially replacing her) but from the interview, it sounds like it might have been like that even if Janet had stayed in the band.
Joe played “Desperado” live in the 90s basically just to spite Henley. He did a good version of it though, you can hear it on one of the Ringo All Starr Band albums he was on.
Timothy Schmit seems like a really good guy too and “I Can’t Tell You Why” is a fantastic song.
“Ball and Chain” is a remake of a Pete Townshend solo song “Guantanamo” that was on one of his best of compilations. I like it better with Daltrey singing though!
It’s strange that despite being the group’s Grammy winning songwriter, Bruce Johnston rarely wrote for The Beach Boys. But then again, the few songs he did write for them were pretty corny, even for Beach Boys standards. But then there’s Disney Girls which might be his masterpiece. Still a little corny lyrically but production-wise, it’s gorgeous and is rightly considered one of the best non-Wilson Beach Boys compositions. It’s a hell of a lot better than I Write the Songs too. https://youtu.be/qStlMci-Xx0
