Seems Protomartyr's latest got kind of a meh response at Stereogum. Kelela is cool though, and Dilly Dally have some great singles on their album as well.
I have nothing against Carly Rae Jepsen, but it surprises me how much credit Stereogum is giving her and her album.
It's a solid album with some really good singles, but let's be real - this is a Taylor Swift 1989 B-Side album. This album isn't pop genius, it's leftovers.
Is it just me, or have the singles from this album been a little boring so far? Settle was a trendsetting album; hopefully Caracal continues that streak instead of treading water. I'm genuinely excited for the Lorde & Miguel collabos.
Hmm, not bad, not great.
I really like Foals - I've been a fan since Antidotes and was blown away by TLF. Holy Fire had some really nice moments as well. However, I feel like Foals and Bloc Party are kind of the same, in that they're both great, had a cool style to begin with, tried getting into heavier rock, and it didn't really work for either of them. Foals pull it off a bit better than Bloc Party, but songs like this one and Inhaler just don't quite hit the mark. The angst comes off a bit superficial and the music is too well-produced.
With that said, still eager to hear the new album.
