Omar Souleyman – “Enssa El Ataab” (Prod. Modeselektor)

The Syrian singer and festival staple Omar Souleyman cuts a profoundly cool figure, and his winding, uptempo wedding-party music has captured the imaginations of music heads worldwide. On his last album, 2013’s Wenu Wenu, Souleyman worked exclusively with the producer Four Tet. This time around, Souleyman has signed with Monkeytown, the label run by the Berlin electronic duo Modeselektor. Souleyman will release his new album Bahdeni Nami for the label this summer, and it’ll include production from Modeselektor, Four Tet, and Gilles Petersen; Legowelt and Black Lips’ Cole Alexander have also signed on to do remixes. Modeselektor produced the album’s first single, the insistent 10-minute throwdown “Enssa El Ataab”; check it out below.

In a statement on the signing, Modeselektor write:

They say that we, Modeselektor, play at an awful lot of parties. Omar Souleyman has sung at a very, very large number of parties – wedding parties. We reckon that fits! The coolest man on the planet threw the wedding bouquet our way and we had no choice but to catch it. Welcome to the Monkeytown family!

Bahdeni Nami is out 7/28 on Monkeytown.
