Dej Loaf got famous with “Try Me,” a song about killing you. But now the Detroit rap crooner is staying famous with “Me U & Hennessy,” a song about tenderly having sex with you. There’s a world of difference between those two songs. And now Kevin Gates, Dej Loaf’s colleague in underground rap complexity, has jumped on “Me U & Hennessy” to show his own softer side. It’s not an official remix, the way Lil Wayne’s version was, and I don’t know if Dej Loaf appreciates Gates saying all the stuff he wants to do to her. But Gates is so good at this kind of deeply felt, emotive nastiness. Listen to his version below.
