That was my take on the writers’ characterization of the kids they were writing; the way they structured the narrative stripped the central character of options and agency, and made it seem as if suicide were the only logical option for them, which is a bizarre thing to do if you’re writing a story to raise awareness about suicide prevention. I did not articulate this particularly well.
