Rob Zombie – “The Triumph Of King Freak”

Rob Zombie – “The Triumph Of King Freak”

Halloween is Rob Zombie season in just about the most literal way possible; the man literally directed two Halloween movies. So it’s the perfect time for Zombie to drop a new single and announce a new album. (The only musician with a better claim on the holiday is probably Halloween creator John Carpenter, who also just dropped a new single and announced a new album.) Today, Zombie has let it be known that he’ll release the new LP The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy early next year, and he’s also let us hear our first taste of it. Zombie recorded the album with producer ZEUSS, the Hatebreed collaborator who also produced his last album, 2016’s The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser.

Zombie’s new single has the delightful title “The Triumph Of King Freak (A Crypt Of Preservation And Superstition),” and it’s a big, chunky piece of industrialized thunder. The riffs are huge. The DJ-scratch solo and funk-guitar interlude, while unexpected, don’t seem out of place. Zombie has always had a way with soaring, ridiculous hooks, and he’s still got that working for him.

The video for “The Triumph Of King Freak” has the familiar look of past Rob Zombie and White Zombie videos, and it features Zombie leading a band of ghouls and monster clowns. It’s also got footage of Zombie performing for vast, festival-sized crowds — a different kind of scary sight in a time like this. Below, check out the “Triumph Of King Freak” video and the tracklist for The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy.
