Beautiful person. Beautiful album. By sharing his grief, he helps so many people forward. Hoping he finds a way to also move forward

Chiming in here because I actually disagree with the first few paragraphs!

Adele's impact wasn't immediate, but she unleashed a long-time bomb on the American pop charts. I credit her with killing two different strands of American pop: the Katy Perry dance-pop types and the Jason Mraz soft-rock types. Soon enough, pretty much every pop singer that got big in America and was aimed at an adult or older teen audience came from Britain: Ellie Goulding, Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, Lewis Capaldi. (We will see the latter two in this column.)

The few Americans that you could really consider breakout pop stars aimed themselves very young: Charlie Puth, Meghan Trainor, Fifth Harmony. Ariana Grande did so when she started, as did Halsey. The young-leaning shift is why I think One Direction and Ed Sheeran, who were among the most dominant pop stars of the decade, would have been big anyway even without Adele. And yet I also think the Adele-sparked wave in interest in British artists took them to heights few would reach during the decade.

And of course you can't talk about your Third British Invasion hypothesis without mentioning those who were one-hit wonders in America: Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne's "Rather Be," James Bay's "Let It Go," Ella Henderson's "Ghost."

I vividly remember hearing "Rolling In The Deep" for the very first time (it was actually the video, which happened to come on TV while my youngest daughter was also in the room). I was deeply impressed with the song's sweeping sound, and with Adele's soulful vocals. But I was also impressed with my daughter's knowledge of the song, and of Adele. I may have been woefully uninformed, but my fifteen-year-old knew all about the song and the artist. She quickly informed me that Adele was on the rise, and was going to be huge. Boy oh boy, was she ever right.

And my daughter, now a young professional woman, is on the rise - she's getting her own place later this month. I'm very proud of her.

Nuance is completely dead. You either support Palestine and think those concert goers had it coming, or you’re uniformly on Israel’s side and now all Palestinians deserve what’s coming to them. It’s a sad conflict, and there is no happy ending here and I weep for all those who’ve died at the hands of the corrupt Israeli government and Hamas.
