Me too. As a general rule I avoid the House of Blues if at all possible, but I had to make an exception for Beach House, and it seems like it was the right call.
"Obama was heaven-sent." Right, so now you're going to support the guy who hates him, led the birther movement and is doing everything he can to destroy his legacy? Not sure if it's better or worse that Ye's politics have no substance at all ...
I wonder how many Trumpkins gonna start listening to Ye's lyrics and going all Norf Norf on them now ...
Soccer Mommy opening the Cambridge date at the best venue in the Boston area, could not be more excited!!!!
Just FYI: I love her bass playing, and she's a great singer, but she really needs to cut out or at least minimize that damn bass face.
"Take this as a clear sign that Este Haim should be put on camera at every award show from here on out." Not while playing bass, though.
"Myth" is one of the best songs.
Awful scenario to imagine: One in which I think all new music after Eminem and Dave Matthews Band sucks.
As a fellow cis-het male, this is bullshit. I've been mocked and called "gay" my whole life, up to and even sometimes after college. In fact, I had a girl give me a "serious" lecture once about how I needed to be true to myself and come out as trans because I came off too feminine. Idk what it is, my posture, my voice, whatever, but I always thought of myself as straight and male and continue to do so, but I like to define "straight" and "male" however I damn well please (that includes being as masculine or femme or androgynous as I want and having sex however I want). My response to the mocking was always "So what if I am? Is that a problem? And if so, that's really your issue, not mine." I've always felt that any issues of gender or sexuality people tried to impose on me were inextricably bound with LGBTQ peoples' desires to express their gender and sexuality in whichever way they wanted and still do. So let me be straight and male however I want, and I'll let everyone else express their gender and sexuality however they want and affirm and celebrate it.
"I regret that I wasn’t as articulate as I should have been in conveying this thought." Nope, you regret that you've been caught and called out for expressing your honest, ignorant, out-of-touch views. Why not acknowledge that women are creating much of the best music out there right now and say your comment was just completely wrong?
Trickle down might help the economy in a macro sense, but it certainly won't be shared all that much with the poor, working class and middle class (a few bonuses aside). I'd much prefer a demand-side solution combined with government spending to improve the economy.
I'd be interested in finding out how many middle class people pay over $10,000 between state income and property taxes. Even in MA, you'd have to have a pretty decent income and a rather valuable house to pay more than that. Those would be the people taking it on the chin.
I wholeheartedly agree with your first comment though, btw.
So economic prospects have improved slightly for PoC, that's great, but we're still not even close to where things need to be. Plus, we've got Jeff Sessions putting private prisons back in business (reversing Obama's decision to end them) and vowing to continue mass incarceration by undoing Obama's directive on marijuana and pressing prosecutors to push for maximum sentencing. Not to mention the president praising the so-called "very fine people" who terrorized Charlottesville. Not sure it's a great time to be a person of color (or, frankly, anyone other than one of Trump's robber baron buddies) in this country right now.
The tax calculator I used shows me saving a little over $400 a year, and I'm certainly not one of Trump's "rich [cronies]." My cousin's family will be saving around $2,000 a year, and they're not rich either. These middle class tax cuts *do* expire in 10 years while the corporate cuts and cuts to the inheritance tax are permanent, so there's that, but let's try sticking to the facts here (inconvenient though they may be) in order to find a more accurate narrative to counter Trump's asshole-ness. Such as: Why not keep the lower corporate rate, close a lot of loopholes that lower corporations' effective rate, and raise rates on inheritances (rather than repealing it like the Trump/GOP bill does) and on the highest marginal income brackets to fund progressive priorities like expanding healthcare coverage, combating climate change, funding education, etc.?
Phew, I'm glad sexism is gone. Btw see the President's latest comments on feminism?
Oops, I'm wrong. :-( Looks like I'll have to buy a digital copy, though I feel you on the frustration.
Pretty sure you can stream it on their Bandcamp page.
Her voice reminds me a bit of Ida Maria's. Anyone remember her? "Fortress 'Round My Heart" still rocks.
That album art too!
I love "Manhattan," but damn if his character in that film isn't a huge asshole and a creep. Almost as bad as the fact that he's a middle-aged man dating a high schooler is how he's constantly belittling her, saying shit like, "What do you know? You're just a kid!" I kept wanting her to flip it on him and say, "Why the hell should I listen to you??? You're the middle aged creep DATING this kid!"
He's not very bright if he ever thought Trump was loyal to anyone but himself and his family. Trump demands complete loyalty, and gives none in return.
But admitting you did wrong and vowing not to do it again takes away the option of continuing to be openly homophobic. Seems like that's an option he wants to keep open.
I hesitate to say it, but maybe, just maybe, getting engaged in the manner Cardi B and Offset did wasn't a great idea? Not to mention, it's kind of a crappy thing to propose in front of tens of thousands of people. I mean, she said yes, so I guess it's all good, but really, did she have much of an option? Say no and storm of the stage and cause a huge amount of drama in front of an arena full of people? Also, this defense is weak af.
I've heard this before, I watched the Charlie Rose interview, and also seen how Bannon brilliantly torpedoed his own career. Can't wait to see what sort of brilliant Macchavellian means by which he brilliantly helps the Republican party lose more winnable elections ...
Edit: Not *everyone* is doing alright economically. The wealth needs to be spread out better than it currently is, beyond just Wall Street and the robber barons who love his tax plan ...
Hey remember when lots of people seemed to attribute Trump's race-baiting/bigotry to Steve Bannon? Lol, nah, Trump is a fucking idiot and a bigot through-and-through. Bannon is an idiot as well, but with more thoroughly thought-out views based on a stupid early 20th century zero-sum game perspective in which he thinks if anyone else succeeds it must be because the U.S. is getting fucked. In reality, they're both doing their best to fuck us all over, yet somehow it seems we're doing alright economically in spite of all that.
Regardless of the actual provenance of that quotation, the sentiment is spot-on. Fuck you, Karl, indeed.
And god damn, that Jay Rock song BANGS.
Weak week for lowest comments, surprised I got on there with only -9.
And not just a little better, quite a bit better. Anyone actually care to discuss?
Hot Take: "Something to Tell You" is better than "Days Are Gone."
This is great! I was really excited for "Innocence Reaches" after the first two singles, but was a bit disappointed in the album overall. If the rest of the album is anything like this single, it should be great. He could have another "Skeletal Lamping" left in him yet ...
Yeah I was a bit disappointed with the power trio lineup as well. Seeing them live with three guitarists is an incredible experience. (I've seen them 6 or 7 times and that last show was by far my least favorite.) Hop Along were an excellent opener too, so that may have contributed to my feeling let down.
