Last night my band opened for Xylouris White. They were really incredible, so tight and so unique. Anyways, Mark Kozelek was there, he's a friend and collaborator of Jim White. While they were playing, he was wandering around, sitting at the merch table, repeatedly screwing with two cameras that were filming the band, etc generally being weird. I don't know if he liked my band. Probably didn't. Anyways, my booker friend talked to him about coming back to town later this year to play a show, and he seemed amenable to it. Which would be cool, we don't get as many great shows come thru Chico as we used to. So, there's your Koz update.
I wanna thank the commentariat, and Beans in particular, for turning me on to my new favorite discovery, Sidney Gish. I've been really loving the No Dog Allowed album. Really great songs with clever arrangements.
Surprised that no one has mentioned it yet: Maggie Rogers - Now That the Light is Fading. It's great. But really, thanks to James and the commenters for all the great recommendations.
What's up other late commenters! I might be late to comment, but I've known what would be on my list for a long time. It's just what I listened to the most. If you like pop music at all I encourage you to check out any of these you might have missed.

Same. It's been Dec 1st for years so I had my list all ready. I ended up just posting it to twitter. Anyways, I'm excited for the annual dansolo commentariat aggregate list.
I'm so sick of Adam's voice at this point though. They've never not had a single on radio, there's no reprieve. I change the station so fast when that goat starts bleating "say say say"
The metric is never going to be perfect. Those CDs that came free with a concert ticket are going to get listened to, on average, one time, but they count equal to someone streaming DAMN on Spotify 107 times. But you can't weigh some sales more than others or artists would freak out.
I am at the Bumbershoot festival all this weekend! There is a lot I am looking forward to, but the band I am the most irrationally excited for is WHITE REAPER
I've been a fan since Kill the Moonlight, and I'm finally going to see them live later this summer at Bumbershoot. It's crazy that I went all that time without seeing them, but it's even crazier that they're still together and putting out great music. They could play pretty much anything at the show and I'd be stoked.
Hey gang, my new album is out today! "Invisible Ocean" by Kirt Lind. It's synth-pop like my past albums, but this time with a noisier, almost dark-wave bend. I think you guys would really like it. Here's the Spotify link: https://open.spotify.com/album/3VpVlGfJQrpIjBkD6xRkjP
I bought TLOP, but I don't think you could call it a "traditional album sale". I pre-ordered the digital album for $10 when I bought a ticket for the movie theater stream of the MSG fashion show/album premiere. That Sunday, it was "released" on Tidal. Later on Sunday, Seetickets told me "we will be sending it to you as soon as possible". On Monday, Seetickets told me " the final version will be released in the next several days. We will send the album to you at this email address within 24 hours of its release". Later that Monday, Kanye told us " it will never be for sale... You can only get it on Tidal.". Then 6 weeks passed. Then I received the album. Via a single DL code. After which point he continued to update the album. I did not receive an updated code. Yup very "traditional"

I'm a little surprised that no one else liked Porches. I'm not at all surprised that no one liked my other favorites.

I'm starting to think he has serious mental health issues that need addressed. I was there, and in that brief appearance, he had a crying fit on Cudi's shoulder for several minutes, and less than 10 minutes later was yelling aggressively, and later laughing maniacally.
This isn't the first time this song has been ripped off. Listen to "All I Ever Wanted" by Kelly Clarkson, it sounds even more like Camera than this Ford ripoff.
Why doesn't it matter? I don't get why an album that isn't an enjoyable listen can be the best. Talking about the importance of music is still secondary to actually listening to it.
I'm not sure I understand why an album's importance or message has more weight than it's enjoyability. I've been listening to Rihanna's ANTI a lot lately, I really enjoy it. I'm almost never in the mood to listen to Blackstar. So yeah ANTI ranks higher for me.
I was at 2004 and 2011, so naturally my #1 set is Kanye West. I'm going next weekend, so I'm avoiding the stream, but the temptation to stream LCD anyways is strong.
I actually think that Thinking Out Loud will win Record of the Year. Say what you want about the song, but that is the best sounding recording out of those five, and that's what that category is about. I think The Weeknd track sounds the coolest, but Thinking Out Loud sounds big and clean and luxurious which is what grammy voters love
I don't think I'm really ready to assign numerical values, but I know for sure that these are the albums I listened to the most this year, so here goes:
01 Beat Connection - Product 3
02 Drake - If You're Reading This It's Too Late
03 Tame Impala - Currents
04 Viet Cong - Viet Cong
05 Day Wave - Headcase
06 Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Multi-Love
07 A$AP Rocky - At.Long.Last.A$AP
08 White Reaper Does It Again
09 Empress Of - Me
10 HEALTH - DEATH MAGIC
