"While I don’t agree with some of the things she said about me, it’s important that she be allowed to say them and that she be supported for speaking out."
Wow, what a swell guy! But seriously, he's just saying whatever he thinks he needs to say. Typical abusive behavior.
I finally listened to Angel Olsen's Burn Your Fire for No Witness for the first time this week. I was a tad underhwlemed (or perhaps simply whelmed), until "Windows" came along and absolutely wrecked me. That's gotta be one of her best songs!
Anyway, happy weekend, pals. Try not to celebrate the 4th of July. 👋😒👍
Welcome!
That's cool, I didn't even know Margaret was an author as well. I'll have to track those down. I'm also just now finding out that she's good at three different things: her dark pop solo project as Nomadic War Machine is great stuff too. She just dropped a new EP yesterday.
Yeah, I'm glad that was included. Prior to this, I've usually just consulted Wikipedia's list of NSBM bands to make sure I'm not unwittingly giving any of them my time. But this list is more comprehensive in that it focuses more on labels than individual artists.
Yeah, that Feminazgûl album is pretty fuckin' sweet. I too have no memory of how I stumbled across it. I just woke up one morning (or rather afternoon) and there it was in my purchased albums. (I don't normal buy an album before listening, but I guess their name made them a safe bet for me.)
Saudi Arabian black metal band Al-Namrood released their latest this month, Wala'at. Estorat Taghoot remains my favorite of theirs, but this new one's up there with it.
Finally, don't miss Unreqvited's latest, Empathica. I like it better than Mosaic II. It's not as dark as that album, but there's some gorgeous stuff on there ("Empathica II: Everwinter"), as well as sufficiently heavy ("Crystal Cascade").
Great intro as always. More and more these days, I find myself spending time on Bandcamp just checking out new artists based on whims, or on other people who bought them. That last sentence doesn't flow well at all.
No, I never did.
You should check out The Bleakness of Our Constant by Eneferens. One of the best in that genre. If you like Alcest, you'll like this. :)
How about a Stereogum tramp-stamp, personally administered by one of the staff. It could say "I've heard it", with an arrow pointing down toward my butt.
I think if you're lying on your front on the floor of the shower, with your legs wildly flailing in awkward angles behind you, it's O.K. to go ahead and pee at that point in your life.
Dang, that's too bad. That part of "Kerosene" is my favorite moment on the album. I don't think she sounds like Alanis Morissette (and I say that as someone who loves Jagged Little Pill). But I guess once you start hearing something in a bad way, it's hard to stop hearing it that way.
Rina Sawayama should probably be on here, but I've only listened to that album once in full. Also, I haven't gotten around to listening to græ yet, even though I bought it last Friday. But based on the singles, I'll probably love it.
Still plenty of albums I've yet to check out. Here are my favorites so far, pretty much in order:
Charli XCX - how i'm feeling now
Ellis – Born Again
Sivyj Yar – Grief
Yves Tumor – Heaven to a Tortured Mind
Spectral Lore / Mare Cognitum – Wanderers: Astrology of the Nine
Grimes – Miss Anthropocene
Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin Kynsi
The Weeknd - After Hours
JFDR – New Dreams
Cult of Fire – Nirvana
Waxahatchee – Saint Cloud
Vuur & Zijde / Impavida
Whoa, thank you! (I assume you're talking about this Old Blood: https://oldbloodgroup.bandcamp.com/) I am currently listening to their self-titled 2016 album, and have now pre-ordered Acid Doom.
This was the first Esoctrilihum album I've listened to, and I thought it was pretty easy to get into! I am interested to check out their previous stuff now, so I'll see how that goes.
And Turia really know how to end a song. The beginning and the end are always my favorite parts of De Oord. Absolutely masterful. Alright I'm done for the night. Gonna log off and go lose my shit to Dromers again.
This article inspired me to return to De Oord yet again (usually a winter listen for me). And holy shit, it never ceases to amaze me how Fluisteraars know how to kick off a song. Going to inevitably hit Dromers again after this, too. Luwte and Bloem didn't blow me away to the same extent, though I enjoyed them.
I also feel like Fluisteraars have some of the best drumming in black metal. Too many blast beats can turn me off after a while, and I love how much Fluisteraars change things up in their songs.
Loved the intro. It's nice seeing Wyatt get a chance to go long for one of these, and the Dutch scene is a subject I was already interested in. Accordingly, I jumped straight into that Vuur & Zijde / Impavida split, and it proved to be an immediate purchase for me. Right now, I'm listening to Nusquama for the first time.
Other than that, not much going on. I listened to a pretty fair variety of metal this month. But I spent the last couple days mainly listening to Al-Namrood, a Saudi Arabian black metal band. Fucking great stuff.
I'm still well ahead of pace to hit my goal of averaging at least one new metal album per day for the year (it's a leap year, so the end goal is 366). The downside is that when I'm constantly seeking out new albums, I don't really leave myself as much time to pay multiple returns to massive releases like the Spectral Lore / Mare Cognitum split. So I'm probably not going to do this again. But I figured it would be fun to try this at least for one year, and so far it's been very rewarding.
