I've been pondering selling my CDs for a while now, but I know they probably wouldn't get much. One thing that's funny is that I remember seeing "review copies" of used CDs years ago, whereas nowadays everything's an mp3 zip. As more and more people are posting album reviews, there's no more review copies. Or are there? #Schrödinger
Yes, Batman Forever, yes!!! So Gold. If Batman Forever would have been left off, I would've punched someone in the face, and considering where I'm at right now, it probably would've been my brother.
I *love* 'In Rainbows,' and Radiohead's my favorite band, so, yeah. Personally, I'd probably go with "15 Steps" or "Arpeggi" as my favorite track from that album, but the whole thing's pretty fantastic, top-to-bottom. In retrospect, you're right about it being less experimental but no less amazing.
Seriously. I love the pre-whatever album that's from Kings of Leon, and seeing as how the Brits have been all up on KOL's jock since their inception, you'd think they pick one of their great early tracks. ANY song from any album or EP prior to that "breaking lightbulb" album is better than that [crap].
That song opened my perecptions, musically. If it hadn't been for that song, I wouldn't have been able to appreciate "Crazy in Love," years later. I'd probably be on a couch in my basement licking 'Spiderland' and crying.
Yeah, that's pretty lame. I'm interested to see how they're gonna work that. Do you know if they're holding out for their own biopic, or are they just not interested?
I really like the Love, Always EP by F. Stokes. I guess you could call it conscious rap, but it's really good. Also, can't believe no one's mentioned about Cursive. "A child screaming, I am Gemini!"
I think she's just gotten older, and it looks like maybe she's lost some weight, but yeah she looks good. I love this song and via; I'm looking forward to the new album.
Jack Bauer never poops, so why should Kurdt?
Honestly, I can't imagine that Nirvana would've lasted much longer: 2 more albums, tops. I like to think pop music would be be different, but I'm not sure how. "You Know You're Right" sounded way better than anything on commercial rock radio when it was released, but I don't know what that means. He probably would have been in a few movies by now, maybe even collaborating with Radiohea-- *faints*
Gosh, yes. The whole point of these comments is to generate (hopefully) intelligent conversation. I love listening to music, but I've found myself lately loving to discuss it, read about it (and also write about it, and try to make it), even more.
I would, but I just got home from work, and am tired. Can I tag someone in? Skrillex is standing by the ropes, and I think he's motioning for me to tag him, but it could just be a bee.
That is one aspect that kind of bugs me: that it seems so easy, but hey, if the guy's doing it and making money, more power to him. Also, (and this is veering into art vs commerce territory), there's got to be hundreds of guys doing the same thing he's doing, but he's doing in it a way that's "catchy" or "fun" or whatever, to get that much notice, to become that popular. It could just be knowing how to craft a beat, but he's doing *something* "right," that a lot of people aren't.
Now, having said that, I know that rationale could easily be applied to, I don't know, Good Charlotte, or any number of pop-punk bands whose most popular songs suck, but still sound like they came out of pop-punk perfection machines. What I mean is, I don't much care for pop-punk, but I could hear ten different songs, and say "9 of those are by bands that will never go anywhere, but that tenth one will probably be popular." Some of that pop-punk (and, coming back around, dubstep), sounds like it was made by a team of highly trained, higly paid professionals, not a bunch of snot-nosed kids. Soulless and artless, yes, but slick; a highly polished turd that's almost nice enough to sit on your mantle. Or, well, maybe you'd enjoy seeing it on your friend's mantle, but not your own.
I guess to break it down more simply, I know potato chips, are crap, and that I shouldnt be eating them, but damn, sometimes a well-made potato chip (which is still crap!) just hits the spot. Same thing with any sort of maligned music genre.
