white people reading a black artist's lyrics in a posh accent? wow, groundbreaking comedy right here... -_-
honestly i agree with her, the fact they couldn't even be bothered to get the song names and artists correct shows how sloppily and disrespectfully this project was slapped together. there's nothing wrong with western artists experimenting and delving into eastern music, as a lot of the artists covered on this record were doing at the time with western styles, so it makes sense for western acts to rediscover these artists and bring it full ciurcle, but as a long term fan of iranian and arab and thai psyche music it's incredibly disrespectful to not even credit the artists properly. like well done you got a couple of compilations... and i'm sorry guys but the whole project (sexwitch, shamanism vibes) is so very reductive of myriad different cultures and times, so she also has a point there, much as white people hate hearing about it...
why are people complaining about his reasoning for using what could arguably be an anachronism? (baring in mind there is nothing saying the video is set in the present day anyway) if she'd been speaking on an iphone or a galaxy whatever people would have accused them of shallow product placement... ugh
dude, i hardly think björk would count joanna newsom as a personal friend and also invite her to perform at many of her live shows as a support act if she thought newsom was just ripping her off. also, being a long term fan of both, there really isn't anything that similar about them other than the fact they are both very creative and relatively peerless music figures who have non-conventional styles. comparing the two all the time just cos they are 'kooky' or whatever is just sexist garbage.
i spent the summer in palestine studying arabic for my degree and even my friend ahmad's super conservative elderly father LOVES this song [clearest blue] and plays it all the time (and that was just the pitchfork fest bootleg) and he normally only listens to islamic recitals. so i think the problem is with your co-workers haha!
i think it's unfair to say doherty's track is the album's lowest moment, especially after apologising for trashing the 'two dudes' two years ago and pointing out how they are definitely a cohesive unit. seems like a bit of a snub. doherty's track is great, it has such a vibey bouncing melody
that drop is absolutely utterly monumental, pure euphoria. i played the pitchfork live bootleg a gazillion times and i was worried that the studio version wouldn't quite match up to that recording but it does not disappoint!
so lyric videos are basically just videos now.
i just can't wait to hear the studio version of Clearest Blue!
hardly surprising. which means that by far the most shocking piece of information in this story is that a museum in detroit actually curated a kid rock exhibition... dear lord!
i was expecting him to make a comment on how marriage equality has been used as a carpet policy to blot out all the other arguably more pressing issues in queer politics, or how ireland still has dodgy abortion issues. but no. fur farming yes. transporting live animals... unfortunately until the whole country has gone vegan it's a bit of a stretch
it's a cool concept and has interesting messages behind it yes, but is it not a bit, erm, ageist?
exploding whale is pretty tame compared to some of the song titles on illinois to be fair
i've never much liked him or the killers, was not expecting much from this but i am very impressed, this is great!
wow, this was beautiful, also, she starts in the position she is in where black lake video ends and seemingly due to her outfit, ends where stone milker begins
this is a shame, but at least it seems all the bad reviews are in agreement that it is not björk's body of work that is undeserving of a museum exhibition, but rather that the exhibition itself is poorly executed... fingers crossed it has another incarnation somewhere in europe or japan that does her work more justice
well no cos i am not particularly a fan of those artists so wasn't aware of it, but yes in principle i am against those too. i am sure plenty of those artists' fans spoke up on their behalf. posting stolen music is wrong. especially when it's been stolen this early
wait just saw it's some tumblr kid's upload, wtf, report infringement on that shit
DITTO, something tells me this isn't official as she would have shared it herself, wtf stereogum?
no because arabic noun phrases are different to english ones. for example, the woman's hat would be in arabic 'hat of the woman'. so putting 'boy' first is actually correct.
trying to hold back the vomit here guys. as if self appointing himself spokesman for gay rights and having gay couples as background props for his performance wasn't bad enough…
i need the album now!!!
oh god i love him so much!
anyone else think it sounds a bit like 'rock & roll christmas'? in a good way of course...
i find it really weird that it's called molly in the states, here in the uk we call her mandy.
we are not lions orcas or baboons. also, gorillas are vegans. your point?
she's completely right! as if every vegan has never EVER touched animal products since going vegan… i believe in veganism and i think it's great, i was vegan for a year and loved it but at the mo i am just a veggie, i hate that some asshole vegans would make me feel bad about that.
her other songs are nothing like KP, although i admit this one has a very KP-esque jaunt to it. her usual stuff is ever so slightly more left field influenced i think.
LE TIGRE CHANGED MY LIFE
way to denigrate women! congratulations, you are awful.
YES! Who cares if it is a soundtrack and not an album? it's still a body of her work, a collection of songs she wrote that forms a cohesive whole. it's INCREDIBLE. and it got her on stage at the oscars. a big moment for bjork and how i discovered her!
by 'like all her vids' you mean 'like a couple of them'
this is one of those albums that somehow manages to be both of its time and also completely timeless. a loveletter from early 90s london.
why does timbaland always have to mime playing the trumpet when there's a trumpet-like synth sound?!
basically the movie was one big hot mess. a fun-at-times and scary-at-times hot mess but still a fucking hot mess.
if anyone would know how to defend themselves against angry uprisings it would be israel as they have been crushing palestinian resistance for decades. but yeah, the jail cell guy was very dodgy, but then so was the israeli guy brad pitt met upon arrival who gave the audience a completely one sided brief history of israel. and why were there no palestinian flags anywhere? it's set in jerusalem's old city, there are thousands of palestinians there. annoyed me that the film managed to be anti-both sides, but sadly much more overtly anti-palestinian. (surprise surprise)
