I remember buying this, REM “Reveal” and Weezer’s green album all on release day, racing home and listening to them back to back to back. Though I preferred the Tool album as a whole, “Imitation of Life” is clearly the best track of the three
I’m partial to this album because it was released the day before my wife and I got married! The back half of the record hums. I’ve always thought of Codex as the step sister to Pyramid Song. We saw them on the KOL tour and the songs from this album really blossomed
Saw them last night & they were ON. The new tunes mixed pretty well with the classics. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this new lineup and the overall jammy vibe they are riding with! This band was built for summer concert season
Saw Lucy Dacus in the basement bar of a local club (150 capacity- sold out, obvs).. she played a brand new song and it was amazing. She’s really hit her stride and her band is fantastic
Saw them at air canada centre in Toronto last night and it was either sold out or close to it. Granted, it’s canada’s largest city and they’re arguably the country’s biggest band at the moment . I will say though, I shelled out for a VIP package and it was severely lacking. Nevertheless, it was a great performance- they can bring it in a live setting
I was at the show and must say the new tunes translated well live, with some added muscle. This was obviously a warm up gig for their summer dates but they were ON!
YHF might be the consensus pick for their best album, but yea... they play a majority of that album on a typical tour. I'd go for Being There to hear the seldomly played deep cuts. I'd even take the self-titled record because aside from 1 or 2 tracks it's rarely revisited
Wow, 2016 just won't let up. I grew up on this band so i'll always hold them dear. Living close to Canada I was fortunate enough to see The Hip several times through the years & can easily say that they (more specifically Gord) leaves it ALL on the stage each night. If you're not familiar with their work, I've always sort of thought of them as Canada's Pearl Jam or REM (solid back catalog, marathon shows, drastically different setlists from night to night, rabid fanbase). I recommend checking out their albums: Day for Night, Fully Completely, Phantom Power, Up to Here... they're all pretty solid though. Hope i get to see them one last time.
