The last part of the statement taps into something I have said all along after the charges were filed — if the art is deemed to be child pornography it opens up an INSANE can of worms. Millions of people are in possession of said pornography! And what about all the stores who sold the record, thereby distributing child pornography? Or the label reps and publicists who essentially become guilty of mass producing child pornography? The whole thing would be nuts.
God almighty do I love this band. In a world where the amount of money they made from these records would be a direct reflection of how much their music has meant to their fans, they would be cancelled for being too rich.
Thanks for the great writeup.
To be honest it has seemed pretty lax to me. A massive portion of the crowd is unmasked and I have not seen any venue staff telling people to put their masks on. As far as the tour crew, everybody was required to be vaccinated in order to go on the tour. Out of an abundance of caution I actuallt snuck my way into a booster before going because I have several vaccinated musician friends who have gotten Covid on tour in the last couple months. Scary, but it is what it is.
Thank God. As a touring musician I really wish all cities would adopt this, but I recognize that that is a total pipedream. I have been on tour for the last two weeks playing for thousands of mostly unmasked people, basically just waiting until the day I test positive :-/ What a world.
There is a lot of AA lingo in there. “What it was like, what happened, and what it’s like now” is the way people describe the structure of an AA lead share. “Attraction rather than promotion” is quoting the AA 12th Tradition. Soooo I guess she is going to be singing about addiction? Or something.
I am a hired gun guitarist for pop artists. I am trying my darndest to lean into surrender, but basically everybody is shitting bricks. On my list of possible career concerns going into the year, “the total disappearance of the live music industry” did not occur to me.
Professional hired gun here to answer all of your burning questions!
1. She had a stripped down band because musicians cost money, backing tracks do not, and most people don't really notice/care. Even most huge pop acts put a ton of shit in the tracks these days, and the budget for a baby artist is tiny (which is also why the musicians she's playing with sound more like Band Dudes than top notch pros, for whatever that's worth).
2. The drummer is behind plexiglass to isolate the sound so the drums don't bleed into the microphones when they're mixing it for the broadcast.
And there ya have it!
