Depeche Mode's "Ultra"'s 20th birthday is coming up too. Hope you don't forget that one. Not only is it a great album in its own right, but it also marks the aftermath of Dave Gahan's near-death experiences.
Please baby, no more posters in L.A. Give us the album, Lana
The "anything with Julia Roberts" bit is far more worrying. I mean, I love Aliens, but still...
Tom Araya is/was a Pinochet supporter. No surprise there.
Another clear and cut case of "OMG he's left wing"-itis
Simply put my favorite drummer of all time. RIP :-(
Any chance we can get Neko Case to cover "Christie Road"?
Has this been on Fox News? Or do they refuse to acknowledge the heroic feats of someone named "Marx"?
Just want to say "Cona" is the Portuguese slang word for "Pussy". Conaboy best be aware should he ever go to Portugal on a trip
I bought "You Want It Darker" the afternoon before Leonard Cohen died. And this morning I listened to "In The Wake Of Poseidon". Getting seriously worried here!
Two comebacks today. One sounded like an unfinished demo from the "Darklands" era. The other one sounds fucking awesome! Final score: Music wins
"Elbow are veterans of that post-Radiohead era in British pop-rock that gave us Coldplay, Travis, and Starsailor, and they’re still going strong 15 years after their debut." - And are substantially better than those other 3 put together!
"Punk rock to me is not about music" - Of course, he won't share with the rest of the world what it is about, so that we can all bask in the glory of his vision. I'm pretty sure it wasn't about destroying everything that came before. That was a facade created by his dad. Lydon had his Van Der Graaf Generator and Can records well stashed in his bedroom, Joe Strummer loved his classic rockers, etc. Of course he can say it was not about music, since he wasn't even there, and didn't have to pay a cent to get all the things he now destroyed. Maybe his prankster self-important dad told him stories of people destroying Pink Floyd records in big bonfires in the center of London, and he happened to believe it. Does he really think a "new" replacement punk will come out of this? Would he even recognize it if he saw it? What is his opinion on hiphop? On grime? On the activism of Against Me, or Downtown Boys? On home recording? On Bandcamp and Soundcloud? This is just a privileged idiot saying music today sucks by burning stuff with an extremely slappable face, instead of going on YouTube comment threads to say it's all about Justin Bieber these days. Put him in a room with Martin Shkreli, and lock the door forever.
“I don’t think he’s had anything relevant to say for the past 10 or 20 years,” - Unlike him?
Saw her live twice. She was absolutely amazing, just full of verve, passion, energy and life. Heartbreaking to think someone with that much to give could be snatched away so early. RIP Sharon, and thank you.
41 (42 in April). But a late starter when it came to My True Musical Path, you might say. Found the album at 21, after reading about it in one of those small musical reviews NME saved for the non=Britpop chancers at the time. Same way I discovered bands like GYBE, Add N To (X), Arab Strap (please don't "Philophobia"'s 20th in 2018!), heck even "Endtroducing". Anyways, fell in love with it, then bought the EPs they had released so far in Paris, during an Interrail trip. They were VERY divisive at the time. Like I imagine The Smiths must have been during the 80s. There were those who couldn't stand what they viewed as their exaggerated tweeness and preciousness. And btw, Tom, their anonimity WAS viewed as a marketing strategy at the time. Anyway, their last 2-3 albums don't really do it for me, but the first 3 will always be special trinkets in my collection. Speaking of their influence, I know they're not American, but I'm surprised Kings Of Convenience haven't been mentioned.
Let him build the damn house, Jimmy. There's always a chance he'll turn into a recluse, and spare the rest of the world from his annoying vaudevillian clowning.
Hardcore poptimists love Taylor, and tend to hate Drake. So, if nothing else, I'd like to see how they reconcile this in their minds. Could be a very interesting irresistible force/immovable object situation.
This immediately earns the title of "Most Unexpected Mention of a Small Portuguese Town by an Indie Band Ever!". Shame I'm not really a fan of theirs.
Spot on, basically. You can read I said the very same thing, in different words, on the Azealia Banks news comments.
I can't disagree with you. It's just that I have seen it happen in many cases in Europe too.
I'm a staunch leftist and I am pissed at the left. A lot of the left did fuck-all to stop this from happening. They preached to the converted with endless memes, jokes, FB images, sharing comedians' speeches and so on. It just so happens that while you point and laugh in a self-satisfied manner, the right and the populist extreme-right are out there gaining votes. Hillary lost decisive states because of that. Trump did the grassroots work, the motivational speeches about bringing industry back, etc, and no one put a stop to it. Instead they treated it as a fait-divers. I'm sorry, but until the left learns to speak that language, it will languish!
Black tear falling on my lazy dude Got a trucker's cap say 22
Only "jazz" album I bought this year so far was the - admittedly excellent - "Channel The Spirits", by The Comet Is Coming, based on The Quietus' recommendation. I dare say it would make another great linkup with Sun Ra, as it features a lot of synths, afrofuturism, and psychedelia. Anyway, many thanks to Phil for all the suggestions.
The Fox Newsviewer won't give a damn about any "clarification". They will just read "ANTI POLICE PERFORMANCE" on the screen (Putin would be proud), and judge it from there. A black & white world is as far as they can process.
In the meanwhile: http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshh8301ZK9C8gteH74Z But don't worry. I am sure Donald Trump will condemn the use of his campaign hat by one of those people. Right?
"As a New York City firefighter, he should be trying to bring people together rather than fracture relationships" - Fucking hypocrites. How about YOU do something? Oh, I forgot. The police is beyond criticism.
Next time: Check reviews of previous concerts. The Internet is your friend. Still, at least they're not accusing her of being antisemite. #UncleLeo
She does know how to choose them, doesn't she?
Happy as a United fan to see Zlatan and Martial celebrating. And as a Portuguese person (Euro Champs!!!) to see Renato Sanches ALREADY earning pride-of-trailer-place with the Bayern shirt. The remix is shit, obv
Gillian Welch's name coming after The Wallflowers' makes all the Big Font/Little Font Coachella discussions seem irrelevant.
The "stoner" comments led me to check if "Cypress Hill III: Temples Of Boom" had received the "Turns 20" piece, as I have been digging it up for a few spins lately. It hasn't :-( Sorry for the interruption. Normal service can now resume.
Awesome. By the way, was it just me, or did the non-metal media half-missed out on "Refractory Obdurate"?
Primark has had some accusations of being a profit-from-sweatshops retailer. That aside, the day Bob Geldof releases an album as brilliant as "The Lexicon Of Love", I might consider listening to his demented self-aggrandising ramblings for more than 2 seconds.
I was gonna say that it was high time the person in the last Instagram got to know more "stoner" artists other than Cypress Hill. Then I went to the festival's website, and read the other headliner was B.O.B.. So, maybe she had a point.
Can they make Norman Bates' knife out of Valerian steel?
"...we all have a purpose, that we all have a meaning to life and it’s not, like, we just don’t live to die,” he continued. “And this life is not all struggles.”" - Someone write "Dalai Lama" in front of it, and post it on Facebook/Instagram/Whatever. Might want to remove the "like", though.
