Friday is actually a pretty good day and will probably get me to shell out for one day at least. $400 for 3 days is absolutely insane though for that lineup. Like, who is Saturday for?
Talking about this kind of thing has way more of a positive, global impact than endorsing two no-name state representatives, or writing some platitude-filled "anthem." Good for her.
Oh hell yes. These guys don't miss. Nap Eyes + Destroyer is gonna be the show of the year.
What is the point of relitigating this in public over and over again if nobody wants to say what actually happened. Either deal with this privately, or just come out and spill yer beans about it. The conversation around this band is exhausting and just mired in hushed tones and whispers. The song is fine.
Too late! I have it now and I'm going to do whatever I want with it. Maybe I'll give it to a troll and make you guilty by association!
Forgot about TH's Royal Tenenbaums rip-off ads, but they actually weren't half bad. There was also this memorable-ish one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyyI3WtKMO8
Recently got MVotC on vinyl and man is that thing chock-full. I kept wondering when it'd be over before remembering another classic was up next ("Ya Hey" at track 10??) . Contra is a great middle point between MVotc and the debut and definitely a classic in its own right. Shame about Father of the Bride, tho.
New man with McKinsey that's paying / Truth hurts need something more exciting
I lost my mind during the reverb discussion.
Instant all-time holiday classic. Go to hell, Bing Crosby!
That moment in Seventeen is for sure the moment of the year in videos. Such a great song and video.
Seriously, if you think they sucked, and won't even be in the same room as Roger, then don't make a Who record which inherently trades on a legacy that stopped growing 40 years ago when Keith died. Just release a solo album. But nah, that wouldn't be an automatic blank check for another greatest hits tour.
Yikes, was kinda expecting this to maybe sound a little less harsh in context. But he straight up throws dirt right on their graves. And not like he didn't help dig Keith's a little bit either. He was plenty happy to indulge (or ignore) his excesses as it propelled them to one of the biggest bands in the world.
Although he didn't fall off, there's surely got to be a song or album about Jimmy Carter's incident with the swamp rabbit that makes this more of a contest.
Yeah happened to us too. Bought tickets a long time ago, and then the show fell around during a busy time and just couldn't muster the enthusiasm to go. Bummer.
Yeah Terrible love being the first song is gonna be insane. Wonder how all out Berninger will get for it, since he usually roams during it. High Violet played in full is gonna be sick, although I was secretly hoping for the 15th anniversary of Alligator. Oh well, any National album being played in full rules.
I'm torn. I want everyone to experience the best festival I've been to, but also want everyone to stay hell the away so it stays intimate and incredible like the first time. Already bought tickets and can't wait to get back to the Queen City.
It's insane to go back and look at those original lineups, they were fully stacked. And like you said, the location couldn't be beat for convenience and just coolness factor of being right downtown at a music festival.
Boston Calling used to be awesome and have it's own little niche. Now it's decided it has to compete with Lolla and whatever, with less artists for an insane amount of money. Disappointing.
That book was pretty good for like 75% of it and then really petered out.
Well yeah because on the right day Sad Songs is top 5 in the discography.
Not in Kansas rules and I want to hear the planned 13-minute version of it someday.
Honestly there's like an 8-9 track version of I Am Easy to Find that would probably rank right up there with High Violet and Trouble Will Find Me
Yeah I've loved the late-career prolificness these few years but I'm sort of hoping for a decent break from them and then a return some years from now with a more raw, loud record. Although they're all starting to get older now and obviously way more successful (plus with lots of outside interests) so who knows if they still have that gear left.
Yeah I chuckled at Bryan just being like encased in a pitch black tarp or something?
Berninger is the best frontman in the biz.
For real, I can't wait to stand there and feel incredibly stupid and uneducated for two sets of lyrical magic. What a perfect pairing.
Matt Painter in Your Pocket
Talking to myself here, but now going back and listening to this again, and having now seen Wild Wild Country, it's very much about that story.
There's another National/Menomena collab! Pfarmers with Bryan Devendorf and Danny Seim (and Dave Nelson). Check out their album Our Puram. Concept album about a cult, it's a great trippy album, and the title track is a banger.
Oh hell yeah. Also if you slept on that EL VY record give it another spit, it's great. Berninger without the sort of buttoned-up boundaries of the rest of the National is fantastic.
Homie, you mentioned a couple weeks ago or whatever you were going to Bon Iver at the garden too last night right? How tight was that show? Blood Bank was unreal.
Great now I've got like 10 new bandcamp tabs open to get through!
Gotta say I was surprised to see U.F.O.F. so high on the few end-of-decade lists released so far, especially knowing this was in the hopper. I haven't heard the whole thing, but god damn those two singles are awesome and sounds exactly like what I love about Big Thief.
