Christine And The Queens – “The Walker” Video

Earlier this fall, Héloïse Letissier sharp and personal pop project Christine And The Queens released the new album Chris. And since then, she’s solidified her rep as a truly great music-video artist. In recent clips like those for “Doesn’t Matter” and “5 Dollars,” she’s portrayed a tough and expressive character, one who makes battle scars look glamorous. And today, she’s done it again.

Regular collaborator Colin Solal Cardo directed the video for Christine And The Queens’ shimmering album track “The Walker.” In the clip, Letissier, dressed like a matador and looking like she’s been in a fight, saunters through a desolate town, staring down all the strangers giving her the stinkeye. Then she makes an unexpected friend. It’s the sort of video where there’s clearly a backstory but it’s not spelled out for you; you have to figure it out and fill in the blanks on your own.

In a statement, Letissier says, “It is about the audacity of someone wounded. By exposing the wounds you can hurl yourself against violence before you are killed by it.” Check it out below.

Chris is out now on Because Music.
