I guess it could've been way better if they played a sunset slot or something, but playing the main stage at a festival at about 3AM was probably not the best booking for them
Yeah, they always sounded pretty meh to me. They have their thing, and they do it good, but I just don't feel it most of the time. Maybe when it's night and I want to really mellow out, idk, but mostly it's just.... eh. I do like some of the singles and albums but it's just very same-y. Doesn't help that their live show is a total snoozefest (I really wanted to enjoy it, I swear).
THAT BEING SAID, those two last singles are promising. The first half of this song was very much of the same thing, but the second half was really interesting, and Lemon Glow was pretty great. Might actually check this new one out when it drops
A local synthpunk band which I haven't seen live yet but have been following just released their debut album this week, and I'm actually surprised about how much I'm enjoying it. The mix could be a bit better but there are some real gems on this thing. I know a lot of us here enjoy bands like Mind Spiders so I know some of you guys will definitely like it! I was travelling South East Asia around the time when Redbone was a world-conquering hit. It was everywhere there, and almost every traveler I've met on the way was talking about Childish Gambino and specifically that song. Only the rap heads and the few Americans on the road had any idea who Rae Sremmurd were, despite Black Beatles being a hit just a month or two prior (the ones who did recognize the song mostly did so because of the mannequin challenge, but had no idea who it was by).
What I'm saying is the Childish Gambino is a world-famous name/star, while Rae Sremmurd are (I believe) mostly an American phenomenon
Mostly waiting to listen to that Turnstile record as the singles have been great. There are also a shit ton of albums from last week I haven't gotten around to yet or just want to listen to a lot more (looking at you, Twin Fantasy). Reading the list here and finding the words "live-instrumentation-heavy rap album" just convinced me I have to listen to Black Milk this weekend too!
Has anyone got to listen to the new American Nightmare (aka Give Up the Ghost) album? It's a fuckin' great hardcore record, concise (just short of 20 minutes) and mot importantly has Wes Eisold who is one of the best hardcore vocalists working right now. Glad to have em back!
I haven't listened to any Teen Suicide album before but that American Pleasure Club album is fantastic. I fucking L O V E that drum & bass-ish song that is randomly placed on the album. This was such a great surprise on the tracklist

This is great! I'm glad he's leaning out of the "intellectual prophet" character and returning to the actual jams of Fear Fun. That's still my favorite FJM album, and this is feeling very fresh after the slog that was Pure Comedy. Got my hopes up again
I really didn't like that album, but I'll still agree that some of his best tracks are on there (namely for me those are Pure Comedy and Ballad of the Dying Man). The rest however was pretty boring, more-of-the-same stuff, while I know that FJM is capable of a lot more than that
I also just realized that two songs are missing from the Spotify version of the album (more accurately, replaced by a message to go listen to those songs on Bandcamp). That's a shame as everything else was really great!
I always meant to check out this project and never really did, this write up finally convinced me to, and I'm already enjoying this a lot. This is Heaven is just incredible and has caught me at a very specific moment in life now where it is exactly the sort of song I need to hear right now. Thanks for writing about this album! What an incredible weekend for new music!
I just found out about this dude yesterday through his fantastic Kero Kero Bonito remix, funny enough. This track is just as great, excited to hear more
I only gave CSH one listen so far and have never listened to the "original" Twin Fantasy but Famous Prophets is the clear standout. I was trying to study while listening (not a good plan really) and when Famous Prophets started I just froze and stared at the screen for a while. majestic shit
Shame - Songs of Praise is my favorite album of the year so far. Delightful, energetic English Post-Punk worthy of repeat listens. Clicks right into that Viet Cong vibe.
Other than that, Freedom's Goblin is a fucking riot, and I've enjoyed SiR's album November quite a lot. Great R&B/Hip-Hop with some fantastic beats (check out the song D'Evils which is just... damn!)
Blur had that ice cream truck on stage for their 2015 Hyde Park show. At the beginning of the show Damon was handing out ice cream cones from the truck. I was standing pretty close to the stage and almost got stomped by people running to the front
Real talk, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 was unexpectedly great and one of my most listened-to albums of last year. Hope Vol. 2 is around the corner (and that it features some more killer collabs)
Haven't listened to the whole album yet, however I thought Pray For Me was really great, wasn't that big on All the Stars when it dropped (mostly because I thought another Kendrick x SZA collaboration could be a thousand times better), but I'm loving it as part of the full album flow. It's great.
Enjoying this album a ton, the opening track is one of my favorite songs I've heard so far this year. and I'm loving the singles a lot more as part of the album. welcome back guys!
Pretty disappointed by this after my first listen. The singles were promising but it seems that they're the only memorable tracks on this album, nothing else really stuck. I wish my opinion changes on the next few listens but the same thing basically happened with their previous album so I don't know really
