Reminding me even more than usual of Broadcast, especially "Once Twice Melody" -- this is all so good
1. (by a MILE) demo version of Slip Slidin' Away (the best Wes Anderson song Wes Anderson hasn't used) 2. Obvious Child 3. Julio (speaking of WA)
I feel like I can also imagine a Pulp album called Born Ruffians
What about Small Black?!? So looking forward to this album....
I wanted to see Eddie Money's "Baby Hold On" on the list, as it hit me a few years ago that this song absolutely contains Spoon's DNA, especially Gimme Fiction era, I'd say.
It's uncanny and is weirding me out: I happened upon Breadcrumb Trail on youtube in the early days of the pandemic, and for whatever reason, it also *really* struck a chord for me; it's still easily the quarantine viewing that stands out the most, months later.
The Shearwater comparison is SO apt -- so glad you said it so it wouldn't bother me to no end ... it's Shearwater plus OMD.
I'm still digesting it after not only two full listens, but I'll say that I've been wondering lately, for whatever reason, whether trip hop is going to cycle back into prominence sometime soon, and Light as a Feather and Touch Red make me feel like this might indeed be happening. Unrelated to that, You're No Good is *incredible*
This is fantastic, and I'm always surprised and glad to hear another cover of my favorite New Order song, but Destroyer's remains the one to beat (the Blow-Up footage doesn't hurt) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6kWqGO2xhs
Dusty Americana Bedhead slow drip it directly into my veins via IV
If you mean underrated w/r/t Painted Ruins, as you seem to, I couldn't agree more. It's absolutely the one I return to the most. It is *the best* driving music, too. The first half of the album, in particular, is one of my favorite sides ever.
This is fantastic and reminds me of Cranes (very much a compliment)
No part of me thought I'd be disappointed that a song with as singular (apparently not) of a title as "Pink Drink" wouldn't be a GBV cover.
Talk Talk for sure, but more than anything, this song reminds me of Slowdive's Crazy for You, but "sorted": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyU2XrDjO1M
Really speaks to the consistent excellence of this band that, despite the relative paucity of their output, neither the article nor any of the comments (yet?) mention my favorite song, "Back from the Grave," yet I can't really argue with any of it.
Not that she isn't fully her own idiosyncratic person, but the vocals of these Mitski songs are reminding me of a cross between St. Vincent and the singing on "When It's Cold I'd Like to Die," which is something I never would've known I so desperately need in my life. But here I am.
Why doesn't anyone care about Nap Eyes?!?!?!? I'm Bad Now is easily top-five material, not just now, but by the end of the year, I'm pretty certain. No album this year that I return to more.
