If we like it, we may throw it an 8.0 and call it a day but for right now, Robin Pecknold is the exception to the rule of late BNM-wise.

Giving white people within the cultural landscape the choice between “silence is violence” (making you the enemy) and “if you’re an outspoken ally then we will dissect and dismiss everything you say as an excuse to silence you or just write you off as an unnecessary part of the conversation” (making you a pariah to either be scoffed at or cancelled) and essentially no in-between for those people is a very quick way to demolish any sense of unity amongst the non-wealthy and ensure another 4 years of Trumps authoritarianism. I can only speak through an American lens compared to the UK Class system and usually I am the first person to be like “hey we shouldn’t alienate Trump people and we should sympathize” but as much as your “assholes are everywhere” argument is true, I don’t think that song or band just attacks on dumb, poor whites.
Another thing that’s massively important to note. Do you know how many model villages there are around UK/US? They’re not filled with poor people. For every town and city in the US that has been decimated by industrialization, lack of jobs, etc...there’s another that is doing just fine and everyone there is still a racist, sexist, simplistic because they are simply stupid, selfish and closed minded. So yeah. Fuck those people every day until I die.
IDLES didn’t even become much of a thing until all of the members were in their 30s. What lived in experience do they need to do? Cosplay as a poor, British farmer? All of these bands have been playing music and f—king around their whole lives. There’s nothing wrong with that but when you start hypocritically throwing shit like “you don’t know what it’s like” when clearly you as another band don’t either, then yeah...it’s just jealousy on their part sorry.
This can all be boiled down too “ham fisted woke band got more popular than my less ham fisted woke band and I’m mad about it”.
He has it just wasn’t The Slow Rush. I’m just messing around mostly cause I got some Tame Impala vibes from Shore but I think it’s a much better album overall (and follow up to something like Currents) than TSR, which I still think is a solid LP anyway.
