Fuck him for playing the game. X Factor -> Manufactured Group -> Record Deal -> Albums with the most expensive songwriters you can buy.
Kevin Parker is the Of Montreal guy. (joking)
I am waiting for my physical copy before digging into the full album, but the lead tracks have been unreal. But I will say, DO NOT SLEEP on her last album Play Till You Win. That was my favorite album of 2017 and an all-time favorite for me. So, after you enjoy the new record do check out Play Till You Win.
I was just remarking to my friend that this is just about the second truly 'live' performance I've seen since Covid. Katie on Kimmel had overdubs. And most other performances are cherry picked performances and recorded in a much more controlled environment. Morby always has a pretty tight band, I feel like that was on display here.
Hell, even I disagree with some of what I wrote. I don't believe everything I wrote, I was coming at it more from Katie's viewpoint/her America's viewpoint. I personally would never consider choosing such a name. It's not even indie idolatry, celebrity culture is really out of hand. Your can be critical of things you like, it doesn't make them bad!
Forcing one's father as conservator when the person in question happily would accept a professional conservator, just anybody but her non-professional conservator father, is a grotesque way to treat somebody that is mentally ill. That person loses some opportunity to heal or to feel normal as long as that shadow is hanging over them. Shame on the courts for allowing this to continue.
You should pick up the album St. Cloud then. It is a lot better than anything she's done. It's a really fine record.
Agreed, they keep pretty separate as well. He doesn't play in her band, she doesn't play in his. They do a small track together here and there but their art as a whole is kept separate because they both know they each have a good thing going on their own. I think St. Cloud is much better than anything Morby has put out, like a lot better. But I think Morby is a better/more consistent songwriter. St. Cloud is just that good.
Yep, a big label. But big label doesn't always mean competent marketing/booking/talent relations. Bridgers is on Dead Oceans. It could also be Bridgers management pulling the late night strings. Clearly, Late Night is not booking based on solid albums.
I think a social media presence is part of Bridgers' late night success. Bridgers is naturally affable where as Katie seems to be a bit of an introvert. Also, the biggest reason for late night appearances is ultimately going to do with your label or your artist management group's relationship with the shows booker. If you were to tracking 'indie artist' appearances on late night you are going to see certain labels have dominance over others.
This is a bad take. Vespucci did not have war waged upon him, disease spread to him, and a series of treaties voided thereby taking his land. Vespucci is a person. Native American's were a people. A peoples who's history has been erased.
The State she is from is named after indigenous people. You go to the South and there are road signs advertising "Indian Burial Ground". There is a lot of progress that is left to be made across the country. I live in one of the areas that is somewhat more cognizant of the heritage of our Native American neighbors/predecessors. And every goddamn thing is named after Native Americans or uses the original name given by local tribes/nations. I think Katie gets away with using Waxahatchee because it is a creek name. If it were a tribe or the name of a member of a tribe I think there would be a different discussion. You mention Cherokee is a jeep. Well, alternatively Cherokee are a people and Waxahatchee is still a creek name. Also, I think it is nice when the original place name used by Native Americans is retained. Here in Washington, it has increased my understanding of our local tribes and the importance then placed on these locations. A lot of our rivers maintain those original names. Maybe in 10-20 years a naming choice like this doesn't happen. Maybe if Katie grew up in a different area this doesn't happen. She may have been unaware of the origins of the name, although she likely does now. While ignorance is not an excuse absolving us of what we did it is still often why things happen. As a nation we are headed in a better direction, but there is lots of progress to be made.
The guitarist who's guitar was a couple cents out of tune did not do a great job. Which one you ask? The one that is looking unsure of himself and always looking at the hands/frets of the other musicians. How do I know this? I've too often been that guy. Also, that guitar is out of tune, it doesn't sound great.
This mix/performance is a mess. I recommend checking out the album version of the track. It's pretty good. Nice to hear real instruments for a change!
Each track off this album has been fantastic, surpassing the tracks on my beloved Play Till Your Win (her previous album). Can't wait for delivery of this record.
Her 2017 album is one of my all-time favorites, it's so good. This track gives me great hopes for the next record being in the same stratosphere.
All these organizations who think they are so smart by testing everyone. "Everyone tested negative, therefore nobody had it and nobody could have gotten it" is one of the reasons we have gotten as far as we have. Testing negative doesn't not mean you you aren't carrying the virus as tests aren't that sensitive and won't be detectable until a couple days after your exposure. (as I understand it from the CDC website).
Being 86 doesn't really make you a grown as man. I don't know what his own mental faculties are, but not all 86 year olds are capable of parsing information around virus risk. Advisors and family, yes. But they were surely given assurances and misinformation from the CMA about risk.
