the idea that *none* of these artists are even *connected* to the emo scene is flat out wrong. i saw pinegrove on tour with IIOI and TWIABP for example.
memphis seems like it's having something of a moment lately. or maybe i just feel that way because ive been in a big moneybagg and dolph phase for a few months.
I would guess that Travis has something in the chamber, Slime Language 2 is MIA still, and then i bet some of these have had full length projects ready to go:
cardi
nicki
rae sremmurd
kevin gates
migos
I mean she told a story about going to a party at Marilyn Manson's house at 17 the other day. I have never been to a celebrity's house party in my entire life, so I think she's probably got some connects the average person doesnt
DING DING DING!!! Oberst and Eliot Smith may not be considered "pure" emo but between the influence they've exterted on later emo artists + their incorporation into the canon by younger fans. for example, when i was in high school around the turn of the 10s, bright eyes and a lot of the saddle creek catalog were absolutely lumped in to or loosely associated with the category by emo fans and haters alike.
how are multiple people agreeing with the idea that all emo is borrowed mall punk hooks.this is a music site where emo is covered extensively, have you never heard of american football or twiabp?
four tet claims he didnt add any elements, madlib said that's not true and that he added a couple instruments. i honestly think i believe four tet, i believe that madlib would forget he had a guitar on a given track or not recognize a component he used somewhere else.
based on the speed and severity of the reaction from the industry my assumption is that they don't expect this to be an isolated incident. i'd put money down that theres another, possibly worse, video out there of another incident.
This could so easily work as a four tet album too, though. the connection between them has never been as clear as it is on this record. i wonder if kieran has ever thought about producing for rappers. he's done remixes obviously but i'm not sure he's ever had an MC on his beats.
very impressive work overall. easy to predict that this would sound the way it does but it's no less satisfying for it. i can see myself really marinating in this record for the rest of the winter.
yeah i definitely think of the two as closely related. in fact every time i hear "control" i think its something of a flex to show he can nail uzi's style too.
honestly i was only marginally interested in this before hand but man you are exactly right there's almost nothing that sounds like this and it's exhilarating. carti sounds actually distraught and like he's exorcising demons (or trying to) on record. the guests aside from cudis hum are totally useless, even the bon iver sample feels intrusive. might be my actual aoty of 2020
I think the deal is dogshit but I don't know if leaving millions of kids to go hungry until february would count as the smart decision. There's essentially no good outcome available as long as republicans are doing things like removing adult dependents from the benefits for no reason.
I think the songs from the last few years were markedly improved by the Tunes 2011-2019 release. They work much better as part of a whole continuum as opposed to an isolated aspect of his sound.
comments like this on lists are so stupid. did you expect like, an outsider artist with 1000 monthly listeners on spotify to claim the #1 spot on a list generated from the consensus of hundreds of voters? try exercising your brain a bit before commenting.
