I made it to track 9 before I had to go to bed but so far this thing is a blast.
JUSTICE FOR A BURNING HILL (i will die on this [burning] hill)
I must be listening to a different song then y’all because this is fucking great. I’m sure it’ll sound even better in context of the album. I think her worst songs are her more radio-friendly tracks (Love Galore, Doves in the Wind) and this feels in the same vein as those songs, but I like it a whole lot more.
“the last great american dynasty” vs “the next best American record” Lana diss track confirmed
Admittedly, she’s never been my favorite pop star but I’ve always enjoyed a lot of her songs.
I didn’t watch the video! I tried listening again and I liked it less
I was super excited to listen after avoiding the leak for months. Maybe the hype ruined it for me? Idk just feels like a total mess of a song
Genuinely curious what people like about this. I love big cheesy pop songs.... but this? This ain’t it, sis.
1. Norman Fucking Rockwell - Lana Del Rey 2. Green and Grey - Pile 3. All Mirrors - Angel Olsen 4. Young Enough - Charly Bliss 5. When I Get Home - Solange 6. Charli - Charli XCX 7. All My Heroes are Cornballs - JPEGMAFIA 8. Basking in the Glow - Oso Oso 9. Morbid Stuff - PUP 10. MAGDALENE - FKA twigs
Actually. Thinking about this more and I guess I don't really understand the "it's too long" complaint. It's without a doubt the album I've listened to the most since its release. If you love it enough, 2 hours is not THAT much time to spend with one album.
I understand this, but I honestly think the length of it is a pro and not a con. There isn't a single song on there I would cut. It's 2 hours of the most thematically consistent and lyrically mesmerizing music made this decade. Something that really helped me get into it more is putting on one disc at a time, and if I had time to listen to another one after that then i'd continue listening.
I'm sorry to be that person but Have One On Me all the way up at 39 is a travesty. 1. Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me 2. Frank Ocean - Blonde 3. Destroyer - Kaputt 4. Solange - A Seat at the Table 5. Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel.... 6. Lorde - Melodrama 7. Kanye West - MBDTF 8. Charli XCX - Pop 2 9. Nicolas Jaar - Sirens 10. Pile - A Hairshirt of Purpose
They even cite 3OH!3 as inspiration
If you haven't heard the Laziest River Suite from Kaputt get on that. Honestly makes the album 10x better.
Getting some Father John Misty vibes?? Not sure why, but i'm feeling it
Got Nuffin is my favorite track on here.
So pumped for this record. 3 for 3 so far.
