and what exactly is an acceptable level of shared albums between lists that cover the same genres in music?
of course, I wasn't implying this is the only way to find new music.
I don't see weird spacing? I dunno.
It's not about taking it too seriously I'm not mad, but I am bored and in a mood, so I'm going to engage with you on this. You're getting downvoted because you're being a condescending jerk. let's break it down: You don't like the list sharing. that's fine! we can all live with that. Now since you know we all like to, the sensible thing to do would be to just not say anything. After all, what would be the point of saying "hey stop doing that thing you all like to do!". But it' doesn't stop there either. You called us all jerkoffs for posting lists. Again, something we find value in, in fact it's been pointed out to you why some people enjoy it, but you weren't interested in that. You've doubled down on making sure we all knew you thought it was a very pathetic thing to do. Now let me be clear. I, nor anyone else probably, is offended that you called us names. No that's not the point at all. The point is that you put yourself above everyone else. And that we, understandably, do not take too kindly to. I don't think anyone is mad, but we sure as hell are not going to treat you kindly when you're being a condescending ass. so no, we're not taking it too seriously. A downvote is a very easy effortless thing to give you. And my lecture aside, a comment is pretty easy too. anyway, some things to consider, yeah?
that is a VERY generous interpretation of your original comment.
I've discovered many artists I would not have otherwise by perusing SG commentariat lists. Find a list you like and then listen to the artists on there you don't recognize. Might find something you like. Or you can keep on with this condescension thing.
bloc's delivery of a joke and the explanation of a joke have the exact same effect.
I'm just going to list three, that I will refer to as "the haunted pool trifecta" There - Swimming Backwards Sky Ferreira - Downhill Lullaby Angel Olsen - All Mirrors
well *I* think this is an amazing new visual interpretation and innovative performance structure.
might need to take a trip to Holland!
really a gorgeous album
I like Olympians. has a classic Birdness about it.
same. even though I haven't spent a lot of time with that album, it has made me want to see her live very much.
actually happy to see LosingMyEdge just being the most LosingMyEdge they can be.
some of my favorite albums this year: Lust for Youth - S/T Black Marble - Bigger Than Life Brutus - Nest Blaue Blume - Bell of Wool Wand - Laughing Matter Heather Woods Broderick - Invitation Tyler Childers - Country Squire Metronomy - Metronomy Forever Angel Olsen - All Mirrors Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising
It's just kind of a question of if you'd rather beat traffic or catch their whole set. I'd rather see their whole set, I'm there to see them. And the encore will often have some of the best moments. I get the impulse though, as Yacht and I were discussing once, often the experience of a show is "wow! they sound so good, this is great! I hope it's over soon!" I do get tired.
and the audience doesn't need to applaud. but like I said before, the performance is a give and take. None of it is necessary, but if you want to create a good performance, you might want to!
yes, but at the very least, communicate that to your audience.
see, I think this is an example. If you're not going to do an encore, say so! and that's fine. To just not do it when you know the crowd is expecting it is, I dunno, seems like they're just trying to make a point at the expense of their relationship with the audience. (to be clear I don't think this is a reason to be angry with the band or anything, just saying that it would colour my experience of the show in a detrimental way, unnecessarily so)
yeah for sure. so I guess what I'm also thinking is (kinda just thinking out loud here now), is that it is a weird ritual, but we are talking about performance here. so a little theatrics and ritual, well that's part of the game. Performances work and are satisfying largely because there is a give and take between artist and audience. I'm not saying an encore is necessary for this, but just saying that there is a reason for its existence.
I agree that encores are kinda dumb, a weird ritual. But like, the expectation is there. And here's the thing, you can put in an encore in your set whenever you like, you don't actually have to play more songs than you would have otherwise. I dunno, I sympathize with the band, but I think you do send a message to your fans 'You're not worth the encore' even if that's not intended. Maybe it's more the approach. If the artist said "hey this is normally where we'd do an encore, but we're just gonna play a couple more songs and then be done". That would be totally fine! I guess that's sorta what she's doing here, setting those expectations.
The Orielles are super talented.
now let's not get carried away
well that's the thing. Tom is a Not-Roy. I'm not even sure Logan regards Tom highly enough to consider him a blood sacrifice. (this is all for the sake of argument and over-thinking, btw)
Yeah, Tom might make more sense. But it kinda seemed like Logan threw Kendall under the proverbial bus in real time during the hearing (did I read moment right), and more in that exact moment of when he proposed a blood sacrifice, they seemed to be pointing to Kendall as the target. but yeah. Tom. the meat in the sandwich.
gotta be Kendall, right? it seemed like they were framing it that way, anyway. who knows.
I was wondering the same thing. Meanwhile I'll be Joe Howesin' it. Can't remember the last time I really listened to an actual mp3 anyway.
I am very anxious to listen to this. AOTY potential here. She's so damned good.
agreed. slog. shorter. varied. rad. agreed.
I see your two cents, and raise you one PLOPZ!
Hey bloc, please never make another Chromatics/The Who combo comment. thanks!
"… and that’s why the album artwork is an open butthole" yeah. yep. okay.
I like this alright! that's the best I can do right now, but it's something
Controversial opinion: Frankie Rose's cover of the Seventeen Seconds album is an improvement on the original.
Was going to make a joke about being grateful it's not called Kanye is Jesus, but like, he's already done it, there's nothing more to lampoon there
My entry point was Burst Apart, another great album. I need to put in some time with Hospice.
Achtung Baby is my favorite, like pretty much favorite album of all time. And I think Zooropa is really underrated. Pop, well I should give that a fresh listen, but it has at least one of their worst songs, imo.
