Agreed! I don't even like the song, but I won't begrudge the Foos for just trying something out for the heck of it. And Dave Grohl is cool as fuck, because the coolest people in the world don't care about whether or not people think they're cool.
So many artists use their platforms to spread misinformation or only do vapid vanity projects. I don't care if you think the latest endeavors from the Foos, Weezer, Green Day, etc. are "lame" or whatever. I know they're the kind of bands that once upon a time were considered cool to like, and rather than use their platforms to elevate themselves, they use them to have fun, spread good messages, and tell the kids that look up to them that being different and not following trends makes you cool, not a weirdo. That's the thing of it all: they're humble. I'll take humble over genius any day of the week.
If I can be his age and still do new stuff, I'll be happy. Heck, I don't even care much for the song, I'm just glad he enjoyed making it.
I'd rather have fun and be hated than be "cool" and be adored. That's all I'm saying. Whatever you think about the song itself, at least he's having fun and not hurting anybody (if you don't listen to it, and even then if you're a real Grohl fan you might even enjoy it!). I'll take more headlines about Dave Grohl doing shit than the latest Kanye tantrum, Grimes body modification, or Lana Del Rey pretentiousness. Once upon a time, they were all "cool." Dave Grohl isn't cool, but damn if I'd rather hang out with him than with those other guys.
Is your 79-year-old Trump voter dad having fun and doing what he loves?
Blech. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I consider myself a generally positive person, but I can't think of anything good to say about UB40. You're better off listening to the raucous, joyous cover of the same song by Lick the Tins from the soundtrack of The Snapper (then watch The Snapper, 'cuz The Snapper is really fucking good).
Kanye took a genuinely nice thing and spun it into a slight against him. How very Trumpian of him.
Charli hasn't taken one misstep, as far as I've seen. I sure hope she doesn't do a show with NFT-gating, but beyond that little hiccup which might not even be a hiccup depending on whether or not it's true, she's been one of the most sure-footed, unproblematic musicians in the game. People on social media fucking suck.
Duh duh duh, duh duh duh, let the Grohls be Grohls
I mostly know it from "Power" but point taken and agreed with.
(Stereogum folks can be plenty chill too, don't get me wrong, but I can't help but roll my eyes at some of these comments. Sorry he isn't sullenly staring at his coffee cup while talking to an interviewer about how his new album was inspired by the color grey or something.)
Did anyone else read the headline to the tune of "21st-Century Schizoid Man"?
I love watching Stereogum folks groan at every new Dave Grohl thing like he isn't just doing whatever he pleases and having a blast. I want to have as much fun as Dave Grohl playing in VR or covering "Copacabana" or being on Fraggle Rock. He seems so happy! I want to be happy like that. You go, Dave Grohl.
Jann isn’t even involved anymore, which is probably why Beck and Fela are in the running instead of Poison and Whitesnake
