Before I saw the list of nominations, I thought "maybe the grammys won't be terrible this year". Now... https://media.giphy.com/media/Ou18ZgE49Fss0/giphy.gif
When I got done laughing at this I had to ctrl+f to my list and make sure I didn't do the same exact thing
I kind of laugh at the comments I've seen about Soccer Mommy being "See Snail Mail" in a "funny because it's true" way. Snail Mail took a long time to grow on me but I ended up liking it a lot. Soccer Mommy was a bit more immediate. I wish I connected with the Adrienne Lenker album more since I loved the last 2 Big Thief albums (though this might fit the same category as Snail Mail/Soccer Mommy).
We have the same top 2. Neat! They were a coinflip for me.
I guess saying it plops is kind of like saying it's the shit?
Yes! I think I had seen complaints when Care came out that he was pretty corny and there was a lot of truth to that, but I didn't find much corny about The Anteroom. And maybe people were put off by the murky vocals but I was totally here for that.
We do! Thanks for yours too - some of the albums you listed I liked a lot even if I didn't have them in my list (Beths, Matthew Dear, Robyn, Holy Motors). And I think I listened to Wild Pink when it first came out, probably need to give it another go.
1. Fucked Up - Dose Your Dreams 2. Parquet Courts - Wide Awake! 3. Hop Along - Bark Your Head Off, Dog 4. Let's Eat Grandma - I'm All Ears 5. Janelle Monae - Dirty Computer 6. Jeff Rosenstock - POST- 7. Beach House - 7 8. Iceage - Beyondless 9. DJ Koze - knock knock 10. Ty Segall - Freedom's Goblin 11. Against All Logic - 2012-2017 12. Illuminati Hotties - Kiss Yr Frenemies 13. MGMT - Little Dark Age 14. Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar 15. Soccer Mommy - Clean 16. Preoccupations - New Material 17. Mitski - Be The Cowboy 18. Dilly Dally - Heaven 19. Thee Oh Sees - Smote Reverser 20. How to Dress Well - The Anteroom 21. Deafheaven - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love 22. Christine and the Queens - Chris 23. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever - Hope Downs 24. Snail Mail - Lush 25. Kali Uchis - Isolation I didn't listen to a ton of rap this year, for whatever reason. I only gave a few spins to Saba, Noname, Vince and Earl though I did enjoy them a lot. I wasn't going to bother with Dose Your Dreams since I liked David Comes to Life but didn't love how long it was, and then I never really connected with Glass Boys. So it was really surprising when I gave it a chance that it ended up being one of my favorites this year. There's plenty of other albums I really liked this year that I didn't list, and I'm looking forward to scouring this page for more albums I've missed and need to check out. So I'm happy with the way things went this year in music. Apprehensive about things in general, but what else is new.
I gave it a try just now, but ugh no thanks. Also 5 songs here.
I'm 31 and close friends with an 11-year-old girl. But I suppose it would be weird and creepy if I texted with her because she's a dog.
I wasn't out when I started commenting here - and I guess I don't always comment, most of the time I start to type a comment then cancel it and sprinkle some upvotes instead. But it's been really helpful for me to see a wide variety of queer people here and the whole community being so supportive. I think it helped me when I did start opening up to people in real life. Unlike most sites, coming to the comments here often actually restores some faith in humanity. Plus I always like when people here remind me to listen to good music I've been ignoring. Thank you Dan for this, and thank you everyone. I love you all.
I was just telling someone yesterday that the 2010s lists are going to start the middle of next year and didn't even think about this list coming today. 1. Hop Along - Bark Your Head Off, Dog (although I just discovered Painted Shut and have been listening to it even more) 2. A.A.L. - 2012-2017 3. Beach House - 7 4. DJ Koze - Knock Knock (although I just discovered Amygdala and have been listening to it even more) 5. Jeff Rosenstock - POST- 6. Parquet Courts - Wide Awake! 7. Hookworms - Microshift 8. Janelle Monae - Dirty Computer 9. MGMT - Little Dark Age 10. Lucy Dacus - Historian Too early to tell but I liked them so far: FJM, Iceage, Jon Hopkins, illuminati hotties Also I keep forgetting to listen to Car Seat Headrest. I listened to Twin Fantasy a ton before he redid it this year and loved it, and I actually like the new version even better. But I haven't spent as much time with it so I didn't include it in the list.
It sounds a lot like Diamond Dogs-era Bowie
I really liked Three Futures but I know I'm in the minority. Not just from the comments here. I saw her last year and there was fucking nobody there. Still put on a great show though, and I'm sure she'll find another label and do fine.
Just stumbled upon this tab I opened a couple days ago. Didn't really get into Deserter's Songs when I listened to it a while back, but I'm listening to Yerself is Steam right now and holy shit this is amazing.
Oh Fifth Harmony, we hardly knew ye. Literally.
Every time I hear this song I want to play Bayonetta 2 again.
It's kind of like sitting on a warm toilet seat. It feels strange, yet oddly comforting.
Somewhat in order: The Horrors - Something To Remember Me By Japanese Breakfast - Diving Woman Priests - JJ Perfume Genius - Wreath Vince Staples - Big Fish Torres - Helen in the Woods St. Vincent - Sugarboy Xiu Xiu - Wondering Slowdive - Slomo Miguel - Told You So Destroyer - Tinseltown Swimming in Blood Big Thief - Shark Smile Japandroids - In A Body Like A Grave The xx - Dangerous Sampha - Blood On Me Kendrick Lamar - FEEL. (Sandy) Alex G - Bobby Perfume Genius - Valley LCD Soundsystem - Tonite Japanese Breakfast - Soft Sounds From Another Planet I was gobsmacked the first time I heard "Something to Remember Me By". The rest of V is solid and I liked The Horrors alright before, but I just didn't expect them to make a song like this.
It's good to see Los Campesinos on some of these lists. It's my favorite album of theirs even though it seems to be their least acclaimed.
Half of these I love, The Leftovers in particular, and the other half I really want to see
Really looking forward to going through everyone's lists and catching up on the albums I missed or didn't spend enough time with. But later this week, I'm sleepy as hell today. 1. Slowdive - Slowdive 2. Perfume Genius - No Shape 3. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. 4. Japanese Breakfast - Soft Sounds from Another Planet 5. LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem 6. Sampha - Process 7. Fred Thomas - Changer 8. Big Thief - Capacity 9. Lorde - Melodrama 10. Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory 11. St. Vincent - MASSEDUCTION 12. The War On Drugs - A Deeper Understanding 13. The National - Sleep Well Beast 14. The xx - I See You 15. Alex G - Rocket 16. Japandroids - Near to the Wild Heart of Life 17. Palehound - A Place I'll Always Go 18. Los Campesinos - Sick Scenes 19. !!! - Shake the Shudder 20. Torres - Three Futures
I'll give this album a chance but I won't be surprised if this is the first Beck album I don't like. I think I'd be way less disappointed if this came on in 2014 (2013?) like it was planned at the time. When Gorillaz released The Fall in 2010 and I couldn't care less, it wasn't a big deal because I was still listening to Plastic Beach nonstop. When they released **googles Gorillaz because I already forgot the name of the album this year** Humanz this year and I couldn't get into it it was way more disappointing. The extra wait makes it more of a letdown.

I think a lot of people did. MMJ seemed to get even more mainstream recognition when it came out, and there were a few moments that I did enjoy on the album.
I figured all the people complaining about the new Arcade Fire songs were the same people hating on Reflektor. I liked the title track and I loved Reflektor. But listening to the album gave me the same feeling I had listening to Evil Urges - my initial positive impression quickly nosedived into utter disappointment. Here's to hoping Arcade Fire can rebound just like MMJ did on The Waterfall (or on Circuital which could be great for all I know - never bothered to listen because of how much I hated Evil Urges).
I had the Chromatics - "I Can Never Be Myself When You're Around" on a spotify playlist, and went to play it yesterday and it disappeared before my eyes. Was hoping the newer tracks disappearing might mean a surprise release was about to happen? Because I like to foolishly get my hopes up.
I've been around here for too long if this is the first thing I notice: http://i.imgur.com/C4ZPemJ.jpg
Sing Me Spanish Techno The Bleeding Heart Show Crash Years Challengers War On The East Coast Twin Cinema is easily my favorite album of theirs and Challengers is probably my least favorite, but it still really grew on me and the title track was a big reason why.
UPDATE: I thought Telefono wasn't going to be good but it actually kind of is.
That is what I meant. I think even Deerhunter try to pretend the album doesn't exist, but I dug it up and actually enjoyed it a little. But Cryptograms is fantastic.
1. Gimme Fiction 2. They Want My Soul 3. Transference 4. Kill The Moonlight 5. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga 6. Girls Can Tell 7. A Series of Sneaks 8? I haven't listened to Telefono much or in a long time. Maybe I'll give it a few spins now and hope I at least have the reaction I had listening to the first Deerhunter album ("I thought this wasn't going to be good but it actually kind of is") It took me a long time to realize Gimme Fiction was my favorite, but any time I forget to listen to Spoon for a while, that's the album I go back to first.
I like all 3 RTJ albums a lot but I think I still like R.A.P. Music even more
I love that you do this. I think my favorite penultimate song you didn't list is Cymbals Eat Guitars - "Well". I'd be interested to hear what you think about Schoolboy Q's "Overtime". It's such a fucking dumb song on its own, but I think I actually like the way it fits in at the end of Blank Face, though I could see if it sours the album for some people.
That's what I thought of and I wondered why on earth do I even remember that? So glad I'm not alone though.
I saw their banner with no mention of metal but there's a list for rock and thought maybe they'll cover metal there? And then the first album listed is Bon Fucking Iver. Rock? Genres really are meaningless.

I don't see a ton of movies. I saw Finding Dory and liked it a lot. I saw Suicide Squad, and the people who hate it are overly harsh, but the people who love it... are there people that love it? No? Sounds about right.
