Almost as tragic as when Grizzly Bear were bumped on Letterman for the Chevy Volt. Their performance of "Ready, Able" was well worth the wait though
How has that new Gucci not leaked yet? Also, any thought to add R&B artists to Status Aint Hood. I know most R&B artists sit in that gray zone between Hip-Hop and Pop but it seems like a lot of good stuff falls between the cracks here at the 'gum between Status Aint Hood and This Week in Pop
I'm not doubting that it's not targeted at specific people. Just like I'm not doubting no shoes, no shirt, no service isn't targeting specific people. But to say either of those codes are targeting a specific race is going too far.
There is nothing in that dress code that I can see that prevents he or any other person from entering that establishment. Whirlyball has every right to enact and enforce a dress code that they see fit. Same right goes the Chance and every other person to not go to that establishment if they don't want to. But to say those rules are there to keep black people out is very obtuse. Not every black person dresses like that nor does every person who dresses like that black.
Hmm...I guess I missed the part where the dress code explicitly discriminated against black people.
Calling out JT for capitalizing on what black people invented is as dumb as calling out LeBron for capitalizing on a sport a white person invented
100it to me is pretty bad but I actually like this mixtape. It might be my favorite thing he's put out since DS2. Purple Reign was pretty great and cohesive and all but to me this has a lot of bangers. I guess part of the problem is this really is a "mixtape". There are a good amount of tracks that don't even have Future, so it feels even more like a product of DJ Esco than a proper Future album that's been given the title of mixtape just because it's free.
Aww, poor Ariana. I feel like Dangerous Woman is getting the respect it deserves.
He's getting amazing mileage out of the album and deservedly so. Is there a more consistently entertaining artist out there now?
Any chance we get a Premature Evaluation? This album is pure pop gold.
I dont think Pharrell gets the recognition he deserves as a producer. I think nowadays we just focus on "Happy" and "Get Lucky" and the hat but his production credits go toe to toe with anyone and his range has been extremely far reaching. I cant count how many times I've gone "Wow, I didn't know Pharrell" produced this. Last year he produced arguably the track of the year K.Dot's "Alright" but few people associate him with the song. All this is to say I'm glad JT is working with him again. They had magic on Justified's 4 best tracks not named "Cry Me a River" and I hope they can bring it back
Not Catholic or Christian for that matter but is the cover a reference to Good Friday?
We reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllyyyyyyyyyyy need a new Fiona Apple album. It already feels like forever since Idler Wheel...came out
Diva tendencies aside, she's probably still the most talented pop starlet out there. Her first two albums had some seriously, ridiculously good pop/r&b cuts that were unfortunately saddled around some A&R cuts with shit artists like Iggy Azalea or Zedd. It's probably way too much wishful thinking that Dangerous Woman will be devoid of top 40 bait but hopefully the rest of the album have the consistency of the first two singles
I love 'Ye but I really wish he'd shut up and just allow people to focus on how amazing TLOP is. The music is fire yet is getting overshadowed by everything else that he does. I bet most people who see his name pop up in all their feeds dont even know he has an album out.
Gotta admit, I'm always sad to a new Status Aint Hood segment with no new Young Thug track.
Pretty sure Tom isn't a fan of AnCo. He hasn't done a premature evaluation of there past two LPs or the last Panda Bear.
Good thing he still has all that Kimoji money to fall back on
I trust Kanye over you. The album is a masterpiece as it is, flaws included.
Boycotting the Grammys next year........ ...........unless TLOP or Art Angels is nominated for AOTY
So best musical gets their award shown on TV??? Dont they already have the Tonys for this
Man, if white people thought Beyonce's Halftime performance was too black power-esque then I hate to see them now
I'm a Kanye Stan; well not that bad but I definitely recognized him as the best in the music game (let alone rap game) but I couldn't even get through the album yesterday morning. I resigned it as a flop and the result of the ultimate ego-manic consumed by himself. But.....I didn't have work today and decided to give it another go and WOW IT IS FUCKING GENIUS. All those abstract pieces finally fit together and album pieces from a Picasso-eque masterpiece. Now on the question if it's better than Art Angels I'd say No. Art Angels IMO is the best album since MBDTF and deserved, if not a 10, a 9.5+ from P4k.
Tupac and Biggie's legacies are so grand because they are so connected to each other and the whole east coast/west coast drama from that time period. You rarely think of one of their deaths and not think of the other's. If there was never any beef or they didn't die so close time-wise to each other I don't think we would think of them as highly as we do as unbelievably great as they are. For these reasons I don't think Kendrick's death will ever reach Pac or Biggie's
Hopefully this type of perfectionism mirrors what Grimes went through before she gave us Art Angels and the result will be the same
Art Angels is such an amazing album and in my opinion not only the best album of 2015 but also of the past couple years. MBDTF is maybe it's only real competition. Fun Fact - the Premature Evaluation of Art Angels has the most comments of the past couple years and probably ever
If this helps Tame Impala blow up then I'm all for this. But cover isn't even the right word. It's a straight up recreation. I really wish she would've put some of her RiRi into it. Maybe incorporate some bajan flair into the music. She should've changed it up from KP's falsetto
It's a strong point to make that the top 3 rappers in the game (Kanye, Kendrick, and Drake) don't glorify drugs. Others need to follow suit.
Those 3 albums you listed all came out early in the year. It allowed them the ability to move up because of cultural significance. Art Angels is nary a month old and it's hard to see it jump in front of albums that they gave 9.0+ that haven't wavered through the year. I can't see how P4k has changed their minds about TPAB or Carrie & Lowell and think they are rated less than the 9.3s they gave before
I've trying to think of ways they'd give Grimes the #1 but my money is on Kendrick being #1, which is the obvious choice. It already has their 2nd highest score and he had their #1 track, not to mention two others in the top 15. TPAB is also "culturally significant" and you know they have the social commentary ready to go. Art Angels is recent enough that they aren't going to waver from their 8.5 score. It cant pull off the upset like The Knife did in 2006. Silent Shout came out in February and had 10 months to build on.
R&B is such a tough racket. Seem like no one is capable of reaching the Usher like highs (or maybe R. Kelly is the better example). Most guys are stuck in the Chris Brown-zone and are relegated to add-ons for hip-hop tracks. This is a fantastic album but if people got their shit together who know where Jeremih could've gotten to.
Kanye did executive produce Anti, so I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet. But I'm definitely ok with her not having anymore massive hits if it means her producing overall better output. It's been a while since Kanye has put out a massive hit but we've all been better for it
When did Adele beat out Taylor Swift as America's Sweetheart?
After listening to Art Angels constantly for the past week I'm ready to declare it AOTY. She's completely spun pop music on its head and the ability to take a genre to new heights and reaches is what an makes an AOTY.
Didn't read the tweets but hopefully it's just dudes talkin smack like on the court.
This thing is so beautiful. I've been listening to this non-stop for the past few days even though I was hesitant since flesh without blood didn't wow me at first. It takes the idea "Pop" and spins it on its head and does everything to push the outer boundaries of what pop is. The tracks are all so different yet work so well together and the product of the album just feels so alive for it.
It's also better than Chvrches, whom I felt held the position as the pure pop leader up to this point.
Demi Lovato is a worse version of Katy Perry which makes sense since she jacked her sound too. Katy Perry is pretty insufferable but Demi Lovato takes it to new levels. I've never seen anyone so desperate for attention.
