I feel you, d-brad, Expect for the top year and the flop year, my top 3 and and my bottom 5 are kinda interchangeable. There are so many 2011 records that y'all love but haven't clicked with me. That year was probably a low point in my life.
And if I had to rank all the release years in music from 2010-2019 from best to worst it would go like this (just my opinion):
2010 (best)
2012
2016
2015
2017
2018
2014
2019
2013
2011 (the worst)
It's so hard leaving out stuff:
11) Janelle Monáe: The ArchAndroid
12) Kanye West: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
13) James Blake: Overgrown
14) Local Natives: Hummingbird
15) St. Vincent: Masseduction
16) Tyler, The Creator: IGOR
17) Weyes Blood: Titanic Rising
18) Priests: Nothing Feels Natural
19) Anna Calvi: Anna Calvi
20) Mikal Cronin: MCII
21) Unknown Mortal Orchestra: Multi-Love
22) U.S. Girls: In a Poem Unlimited
23) Flying Lotus: Cosmogramma
1) Grizzly Bear: Shields
2) Father John Misty: I Love You, Honeybear
3) Frank Ocean: channel ORANGE
4) Wild Beasts: Smother
5) Angel Olsen: All Mirrors
6) Sufjan Stevens: The Age of Adz
7) Beach House: Teen Dream
8) Xiu Xiu: Forget
9) Robyn: Honey
10) Destroyer: Kaputt
Not included in the notable albums list last week: Telefon Tel Aviv - Dreams Are Not Enough; "The electronic outfit’s exquisitely bleak new record, the first since bandmate Charlie Cooper passed away, often feels like the very stuff of music is being torn apart." (the other site's review)
Not included in the notable albums list two weeks ago: the self-titled album of One True Pairing; this is the solo project of Tom Fleming who used to be part of the excellent Wild Beasts. The 80s-influenced synth-pop and rock songs sound like Depeche Mode and/or Bruce Springsteen and are very infectious.
(Because there hasn't been a CD review yet on The Other Site... and I do love poptimism and this is my favorite SG column aside from AOTW and Straight to Video (R.I.P.))
It sure is! It's interesting that they considered fewer albums of this year Best New Music (no Bandana, no Dogrel) and if they do, most of them only get 8.3 or 8.4 (#JusticeforANIMA). And then something like UFOF, a Beyoncé live album or NFR! happens!
Do you remember the time when LDR was mostly hated by the commentariat? Must have been around the release of her debut in early 2013 and shortly before that. I guess, she was often accused of being fake. It's interesting how that has changed and most people like or love her now.
Oh, so Crosby did not intend to slam the Doors like her:

Probably because he's Australian. 🇦🇺
Bonus points for the GIF visuals. It was a nice surprise when they popped up in my Spotify mobile app while I was playing his mixtape.
I love this song since my childhood, but it sounds hauntingly familiar... were Texas' guitars gently weeping as well (the chorus!)?
