Enjoying the new Zebra Katz album a good deal - it feels very post-Death Grips/post-JPEG, but also has a weirdo club rap sensibility that reminds me of someone like Le1f (who I miss).
Not sure what the effective difference is between the Ghosts albums and the Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross soundtracks are at this point, but excited to find out.
Not that Nicolas Jaar is "under-rated" per say, but I'm not sure he really gets the props he's due given the quality/quantity of his output. Easily one of the most consistent and creative arists to emerge these last 10 years; jazzed to be getting a new record from him so soon after his last one (the current 2020 record to beat, IMO).
I'm trying to imagine what would happen if either Sanders or Trump went completely off the grid during the worst national crisis of my lifetime for five days and then appeared on a video livestream with a thumbs up emoji. I don't think I'd feel great about it, personally.
Laughing to myself about Childish Gambino trying to reverse-engineer his own Jai Paul moment, given last week's "leak" and the timestamped branding on this proper version.
Getting a surprising amount of replay value on the new Jay Electronica for how little I need to hear from a very rich guy and an insanely rich guy about their divinely-ordained financial success right now. It legitimately feels like an "event album," which feels less and less common amidst our increasingly diffuse musical landscape, and something it felt increasingly implausible that Jay Electronica was capable of delivering. Also dunno that Jay-Z has rapped on this high a level in a very long time, if ever.
A little bummed that this isn't a statement on the level of a Rounds or There Is Love In You (as Kieran's sleek album roll-out convinced me it might be) but it's definitely a balm for this present moment. "Teenage Birdsong" is the current fav.
I don’t really appreciate comments about “how good Jews have it” in a time where neo-Nazis march in the streets and swastika banners are displayed at rallies for the first viable Jewish candidate for president.
Loving the new Pantha du Prince album out today! Kinda occupies a similar space as the Fennesz album from last year, insomuch as it’s electronic music that paradoxically works as a soundtrack for unplugging (also features more organic instrumentation than usual on a Pantha du Prince album, including some wood percussion that he built himself). Recommended for fans of beautiful, shimmering passages.
This is cool, though I think it's pretty fucked that every candidate not named Bernie Sanders basically admitted that they'd be cool with some convention antics to deny him the nomination last night.
Really enjoying the new Boldy James album, The Price of Tea in China, that came out a couple weeks ago. Produced in full by Alchemist with features from Freddie and Vince, and worth hearing for anyone who enjoys tough talk that doesn't need to be overly loud or wordy to menace.
