Of all the possible directions that seemed available after Online Relationships, I dunno that "reinvented themselves as a Britpop band" was what I would've predicted or necessarily wanted. Enjoying their offerings to that effect so far, though.
New Armand Hammer album announced for June 5th featuring Earl Sweatshirt, R.A.P. Ferreira and Moor Mother, among others. Between that and the terrific album discussed above, it's a pretty good time to be a fan of off-the-beaten-path hip hop.

I really feel for this guy - if I had to guess, I imagine there were plans for a more extensive rollout between album parts that absolutely got upended to all hell by Other Stuff. Feel like that's probably the case for a lot of artists who were poised to experience well-deserved hype cycles this year. It sucks.
New songs have been excellent. Enjoying the version of Moses Sumney that's a little less hazy/indistinct but still very creative/boundary-pushing.
No Shape came out like a week before my sister passed suddenly, and I feel like like a very different person these days than I was back then. More than a little weird to me that the subsequent Perfume Genius album apparently also contends with shifting versions of one's self; excited to dive in.
Trying to avoid getting too hyped after being slightly let down by the self-titled album, but these singles have all been so good. This unique disaster we all find ourselves in is proving weirdly geared towards the qualities that've characterized Charli's best music - spontaneity, collaborations that feel digital in both their aesthetic and assembly, *~feels~* - and she's absolutely hitting it out of the park.
Not sure this is a huge leap beyond Ka's other recent offerings, but I'm glad people are finally appreciating his continued excellence.
Love that he closes out the record with a song dedicated to his mom - feels purposeful on an album that so heavily references the bible/old testament specifically.
New Ka album is really excellent, per usual (dropped the $20 on wav files because he’s worth it). I remain so enamored by his approach to making albums, taking a totemic metaphor and locating the lives of him and his peers/loved ones within it and elevating them as a result. Each album feels like a gift.
Extremely good shit. Her self-titled album struck me as being kinda tentative compared to her older material (always a little frustrated when producers over-simplify their instrumentals for singers) but this is such a satisfying symbiosis of out-there sonics and vocal-driven narrative.
Really excited to hear this - can't think of a better next move after making back-to-back indie rock classics than going full studio-as-instrument and mashing different genres together.
These guys keep getting better and better. More than a little bummed that we'll have to wait until summer for the full album, but it's hard to begrudge any artist making a career-minded decision during this time.
New Lorenzo Senni album is really excellent; discernibly whimsical in a way that reminds me of Todd Terje (the Italians, man) but with a different instrumental that punches/squishes/glides at all the right moments. Great music for bouncing off the walls of my apartment like a bucephalus bouncing ball.
Trying to remember why everyone (critics) was so grumpy about the PC Music sound like five or so years ago when it transparently rocked and has only gotten cooler in the years since.
Price of Tea and it's not especially close (probably my fav 2020 rap album outside of Purple Moonlight Tapes). This song alone...

There are more significant observations to be made re: this (good) album, but - I spent that entire Roc Marciano verse on "$500 Ounces" stressed that he was going to say the bad f-word again. The first five or six lines all ended with words that rhymed with it!!
On full-time Whole Lotta Red watch in this household, I think it's going to be something special.
[clicking away from another tab about health officials getting creative with where they store corpses] damn, it's crazy that your two albums weren't jointly awarded the AOTY Grammy Kanye
1) 2017-2019 // Against All Logic
2) Heaven to a Tortured Mind // Yves Tumor
3) Purple Moonlight Pages // R,A,P, Ferreira
4) Conference of Trees // Pantha du Prince
5) Miss Anthropocene // Grimes
In the mix: @@@@@ by Arca, The Price of Tea in China by Boldy James, Blizzards by Nathan Fake, Empty Country by Empty Country, Ghosts V-VI by NIN
On the electronic end of things, really enjoying Nathan Fake's new album Blizzards, which dropped on Friday - splits the difference nicely between the bruising bangers of someone like Jon Hopkins and more left-field IDM.
