Luv that this happened but I dunno about some of this new stuff - when I hear the guitar lines of "Bad Decisions," I thought it was a cover of "I Melt With You" (Modern English).
No one (except maybe the likes of Dylan) can be lyrically clever all the time, so that's not really fair. She's got (or will soon have) 7 albums plus the very good Pistol Annies stuff. And I get that maybe (James Taylor's) "Fire and Rain" isn't up there with great Pumpkins covers, but there's nothing basic about their covers of "Space Oddity," "Stairway to Heaven," (Sabbath's) "Snowblind," "Landslide," etc.
That's right. You get it - he is hard to pin down, though he now calls himself a "free market libertarian capitalist." (NYT 2018) That's why it's always biased or uninformed of people to only point out Corgan's InfoWars appearances, leaving out (the very liberal) Bill Maher, Stern (a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter), and even liberal/libertarian Joe Rogan interviews.
Also: I think you understand I'm not "equat[ing]" here, just pointing out that these shows/personalities provide provocative/alternative opinions (that likely attracted Corgan's attention over the years).
Disagree. "Travels" or "Alienation" would qualify as least interesting - the rest of the album is all aces as far as I'm concerned. Any Pumpkins song that has a gospel section in it like "Knights" does is the definition of "interesting".
Did you miss all his multiple appearances on Bill Maher in the '90s/early 2000s? Did you stop listening to the Pumpkins because of this back then? Also: "InfoWars fandom?" Nope. Corgan has always been drawn to provocative media, no matter where they are in the political spectrum (Howard Stern, Maher, etc.) - nothing has ever changed and never will. And by the way, this performance was fantastic and even better than the album version mostly because James Iha was on fire last night. You (and everyone) should watch just for that alone.
Sleeping at Last has to be the most surprising band to see on that list of hers - she was barely a teenager when they were kinda a big indie band (around 2003). Impressed.
Lou actually says he would be "proud" if this is his final record - in the liner notes. The Stereogum writer should've pointed this out initially but that part of the review is now gone.
Not the same chord progressions = not a ripoff. Waste of time - though it should be pointed out that obviously this obscure PYRMDS group could be mistaken for a Sleigh Bells wannabe band.
