great column this week. beautiful and inspired.
this is a much better album than "songs of the deaf". those radio skits and Nick Oliveri scream jams have aged terribly!
yes- but they got the only single that still slaps!
the Callahan masterpieces are Knock Knock, A River Ain't Too Much to Love and Dream River. I consider this one the next tier.
i think Peggy is possibly the most interesting man in music right now
good band- cringe-y singer
such a great band. they never made a bad record.
that blew my gen x mind
Supreme Clientele > Pet Sounds
Supreme Clientele > Thriller
Supreme Clientele > Illmatic
on paper this is the 5th best BtS album
Under Color of Official Right is one of the best rock albums of the last 20 years and the fact that they're touring with one of the Deal sisters cements the fact that they are now Midwest rock royalty!
i'm a fan - but do the kids care?
as a strokes and Mets fan - i should be stoked for this. and yet...
Droog has the most interesting ear for beats - his choice of producers is so ill. He brought Edan back!
completely agree with this statement ^
i agree - their taste is exquisite
Danny Brown omission is madness!
De La Soul is one of the most innovative and important groups in music. Up there with the all time greats. They also have a very consistent catalog up until the last album. But do the kids know it? Do they just think they're Gorrilaz?
great band and probably the best of their class (projectors, grizzly, animal collective, tv on the radio) - but bands are out of favor.
me too. i still feel like he's underrated - the kids dont know about his genius.
so far Dean Wareham's making this Purple Mountains standout the best Luna track that never came out.
i'm a grizzled 40 year old ny east coast hip hop head who grew up on Wu, Duck Down and Queensbridge rap. The griselda team is supposed to make music for me- but i never feel it! I don't know what it is- the beats and rhymes are just ok. They put out a ton of product but nothing stands out! I've loved the recent music of Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, Mach hommy, Your Ol Droog, Mayhem Lauren and others... but this Griselda stuff does not move me.
Dave Bermans haircut > Springsteen, PJ, Willie Nelson, This weeks releases
really? I've actually never like them - so i'm the wrong guy to ask. They do have a lot to answer for for influencing the worst rock music of the last 20 years (Creed,Nickleback, etc)
who was better lyrics? i mean serious question.
Earl, Droog, Gibbs, Mach, Roc Marci - underground AF
very much looking forward to this. Oh yeah- Crime Pays slaps. That's all.
damn he's so consistently great. he's actually doing something new with the classic east coast form. he's picking up the baton from Roc Marci.
Bill Callahan, Bandana (have only heard 2 songs) and this new Mannequin Pussy is already my albums of the year. Saw MP last year on a whim and was instantly converted. I bought a t-shirt!
something's in the water in Philly. Good Rock n Roll exists.
like this year. Still waiting on MadGibbs.
