My buddy went away to Seattle that summer and came back for the school year of 89 with a copy of Bleach, assuring me I'd love it and I did. I am eternally grateful to him. He ensured my mixtapes had Nirvana songs on them well before most of my schoolmates.
At least Grohl & co had the good sense of making a bunch of dumb covers only available to a few on RSD as opposed to Weezer and countless other bands that do lazy covers records and pass them off as new albums! There have been much worse crimes in music.

My brain said it was a #1 hit. The song and video were unavoidable. MTV had it playing every 10 minutes, it was all over the radio... I barely remembered this one! Weird how that works!
I am all for a young band stretching out. We don't have enough of those. The strength of the EP songs (all of which are on the album) indicates this album will have some mellow stuff on it, but also some really great tracks that you'd typically expect from Turnstile. All will be well.
I don't think many go around saying how magnificent they are. I'm a fan and for the most part, I just know they make me happy when I need it.
That being said, if this site can champion Paula Abdul & Bon Jovi singles, I can say Everlong is amazing.
It blows my mind that the music landscape was so wide that Bon Jovi existed when this album dropped in May 1989.
I was so proud of them. I was RIGHT! The Cure ARE genius!

The fact that they sounded amazing, weren't over-produced and looked unmanufactured made them feel genuine and a breathe of fresh air from the otherworldly-ness of what was big at that time.
To a young American, the Roses, Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets and Happy Mondays were godsent. Slowdive, MBV and Ride would soon follow. Such a great time to be an impressionable kid with a love for UK indie bands.
Yeah, this is why I never listened to the radio after a certain point. Songs like this existed and not on the radio. So much good stuff in the 80s. You captured most of my big ones, with the exception of Siouxsie and Prince.
I always thought of the other Bangles as Hoffs' backing band since all the hits were her singing leads and she was front and center in all the videos.
Maybe the other Bangles were onto to something :D
I feel you. Too many people not vaxxed, too many variants and we're spiking the ball. That said, Everyone in here was vaxxed (hopefully) and I am happy some got to celebrate being normal in a responsible way.
Amazingly good point. The fact that he is appreciative and seems to be an all-around good guy makes his victory feel pretty good.
Glad they had this show and it was the Foos that got to kick this all off. I'm here for vaxxed shows.
I enjoyed this. It's wild how different schools were, depending on where you live. My school near LA had musical warfare. You were either firmly in the camp of goths/punks/weirdos, hair metal, or top 40 which the popular kids liked. The metal kids and weirdos had uneasy truce, based on the fact that we were actually passionate about our music.
It's always strikes me as weird that kids don't define themselves by their musical taste anymore.
I hated on every single one of these songs with the exception of INXS' Need You Tonight. That's what you do when you're into DM, The Cure, Siouxsie, New Order, The Smiths... not to mention punk.
As I have aged, I have come to appreciate a wider spectrum of music, but these number ones were a HUGE part of the reason I found what would be later called "classic alternative"
Although you have more than an albums worth if you add up all the past 10 years worth of singles, a Cold Cave record is sorely needed. Looking forward to this so much.
