HOLD ON, WE'RE STILL GOING HOME: The first time I ever recognized a sample was hearing "Lost Ones" and knowing on my first listen that the chorus is a flip of Sister Nancy's "Bam Bam", which is itself a flip of the original "Bam Bam" by the Maytals.
I knew it from the Maytals version, which gives you an indicator of just how big of a ska dork I was.
(Damn, now TinyPic isn't working...?)
You were supposed to see my comment from two months ago: "If Tom gives 'I Hear a Symphony' anything below a 9 I'm IRL fighting him."
Oof.
Have you even considered "the notion that what we want from artists may not be aligned with what they want for themselves"?

That "Fall Creek Boys Choir" post was a classic. My personal favorite was "U, Me, & Every Concert We Attend":
Ages 12-17: The era of idealizing 'the modern indie concert experience.'
Ages 18-20: The 'being old enough to get in', but 'not old enough to drink.'
Ages 21-23: The era of 'having legal fun' while still 'feeling like your life is ahead of you.
Ages 23.75- 25.5: Feeling 'disenchanted' about where ur life is, and finally realizing that you're not 19 any more/the people you are watching on stage are living the life that you thought you would be living.
Ages 26.7-35: Admitting that you're 'an old bro' and 'going to the concerts to see a good live show' and as a night out with your wife.
Ages 35+: You 'should probably just focus on your kids'
After all these years I still can't stop laughing at the photo for Ages 23.75- 25.5.

Feel like it would b wrong 2 'bring back' HRO after music stopped being 'meaningful' and the buzzband economy of 2k8–2k11 collapsed bc now everyone listens to Soundcloud-wave rap that is unchill/'effing terrible'.
Feel like it's only a matter of time b4 members of Grizzly Bear/AnCo/Bonny Bear start showing up in commercials for auto insurance/prescription drugs/'getting yr degree' to appeal 2 aging cool dads.
Feel like 'there is no HRO' w/o Carles.
sorry bb :'(
The song and documentary aren't about whether Trayvon Martin was an angel; they're about how unjust his death and George Zimmerman's subsequent acquittal were.
But if you wanna keep making this about Trayvon not being an angel because that's the only technically correct thing you've said in this thread, then have at it. (You seem to like repeating big words, so here's a new one for you: Jesuitical.)
And neither the article nor the trailer nor the song mentions anyone's race except Trayvon's, so Zimmerman being Hispanic doesn't "[fudge] with the narrative". Lemme guess: You had that one all dusted off and ready to go just in case someone went off about white people killing black people, and even though no one did, it was too good a point not to bring up anyway.
Granted, I'm just a sassy, close-minded, progressive, Trevor Noah-watching leftist white knight, so I could be wrong.
Man, Fargo...could never decide which is my favorite: the opening shot (can you believe that bird made it in by accident?), or this scene.

Oh, sandro...
If you want Tom to leave you alone, just make a valid criticism. He will never, ever respond.

"This is when they are likely to find themselves isolated from their support networks, with access to hard drugs, and without anyone to tell them no."
This.
I wonder which of us would still be alive if from a young age we had fame, millions of dollars, and a team of paid assistants working round the clock to supply us with whatever we want, as much of it as we want, whenever we want it, all while reminding us how great and perfect we are.
Hope she gets through this.
