That is the absolutely greatest Insta caption ever. Whether or not she's serious, we should all feel blessed that this exists.
Let's get Drunk II ahead of OTR, because OTR already won the Billboard Charts, and Mannequin Pussy are never gonna get that prize
Who are we kidding? We all wanna hear these juice disses, and Dave is just obliging us by delivering. Also, he's just a dude giving his opinion, it's not like his word is sacrasant or anything. Let a man have his opinion (which is perhaps a bit caustic, but also uncomfortably close to the truth), and let's move on.
"% w/ Feist ^ w/ Yo La Tengo" ... Almost look like part of the track list
It's actually got to the point where it's kind of sad that two brothers have become such enemies. Initially I kind of passed it off as just playing funny buggers in the press, but now it's just nasty and unpleasant and they should both shut up.
Actually, to be fair, it was kind of funny.
I think he's being honest about a really interesting and generally unspoken phenomenon. We all fall over ourselves to love the latest records from artists we love, it's like, based in hope or something? I remember trying to pretend to myself that All That You Can't Leave Behind and The Rising and Hours and Goddess in The Doorway were stunning return to forms for my favourite artists, but in hindsight, I know they were just... Ok. However (and who knows maybe I'm still kidding myself) if anything, Berman's lyrics and melodies are maybe sounding sharper than ever. So no, I don't think he's talking bullshit.
Unpopular opinion, but I think Berman's comments also apply to Bill Callahan's latest. As a massive fan of smog and his work in general, I don't understand why everyone is so enamored by this latest album. It sounds like recycled music to me, far from his best work.
Billy Bragg is wrong! "Land of the Free" is not a powerful song. It is a terrible, terrible song.
As far as I know, no DAWs on iPad have true VST support. Auria supports its own version of VST plugins, but I don't think there's any way you can use "every effect and virtual instrument you've accumulated in the past twenty years", as you say.
Villeneuve. Hasn't really lived up to his potential, if you ask me (apart from Sicario). Blade Runner was bloodless, and there's a good chance Dune will be a disaster. Again.
I just had toast. With peanut butter. Was amaze.
Seems like he forgot which Rocky he was for a moment there.
BUT, how do we all feel about KC (implicitly) backing the Scooter camp?
Equating conservatism with all those evil things that Banks "abhors" is reductive, and stifles debate. A conservative is not by definition prejudiced. Prejudice certainly coincides more frequently with conservative views than with liberal ones, but to say that every person with conservative views is prejudiced is insulting, and lazy.
Taylor's constant feuding gets a bit monotonous. I feel faintly ashamed, like I'm on the wrong site, reading gossip like this.
This is a dumb take, and totally misses his point, which was defiantly apolitical. The music is for the people. We, the audience, own the music. The people of Israel also own the music. He criticized the activists for taking that music away from the people to further a political objective. His stance seems to be consistent. Don't let politics get in the way of people's consumption of art. He didn't criticize the BDS for the political side of things, and he also pretty much stayed out of criticizing Morrissey's politics. (If anything he quietly frowned on Morrissey's politics whilst his donation to the Palestinian cause seems that he sided with the aims of the BDS movement, except in practice.) So his rhetoric was not negative towards the activists' mission, only towards their tactics of taking music away from people, and shaming musicians into taking political sides.
Nah, she's just got an energy that rubs people up the wrong way. Nothing to do with black, or woman, or fat. She lost a lot of goodwill when she complained about reviews not being as positive as she wanted.
Another way to say it would be "worship the art, not the artist". We place far too much expectation upon people who create art to be the great people we feel they must be, because of the great things they create. The cult of the auteur should die. Let's stop probing into the lives of those who create, hoping to find meaning or truth. Truth be told, they'll probably be more fucked up than you and me. We can criticize their behaviour, disagree with their opinions, sure, but that art they made, that is separate to them and their petty lives. It's something more transcendent than a limited human. It is part of the collective consciousness, and it can be admired and worshipped as such.
THIS. Such a reasonable take. Everyone owns those songs. Morrissey was just a vessel. In this way, we can reclaim the art of every problematic artist. And enjoy it in its purest, untainted form.
If you really wanna see some crazy expressions, check out her performance of Horizon on Jools. Gosh kiwis are the best. (Full disclosure: I am one)
Social media censorship is a hot mess right now.
She had an interview that I came across recently with some other musician (that I hadn't heard of), and talked about the process of making music etc with him, and then discussed new music and she said she is writing but she won't be looking to release anything until next year. So we're gonna have to be patient.
Gah this just makes me wish Angel had an album out this year.
I can tell I'm going to have this on repeat a fair bit this winter (southern hemisphere). And he chose the right woman to go to for a break up album - I Never Learn is probably the greatest heartbreak record of the decade. It got me through the dissolution of my most major relationship these past ten years. I even played Sleeping Alone to her not long before we said goodbye. Devastating.
Exactly, Daydreaming made me wish every Radiohead song had PTA visuals to go along with them. It's a breathtaking video. (Accidental downvote because I got all excited to agree with you as soon as possible and my thumb slipped)
I second Tom in this case. This is as redundant Beatles cover as there ever was. For how to do a Beatles cover and actually add something, see Joe Cocker.
That album art is so bold and exciting and... Un-Yorkean (borrowing from YBB up there). I'm very excited for this. Also, hurrah for the continued partnership of Radiohead and PTA. It's only fitting that our generation's greatest band and greatest film maker should be so entwined. Like Scorcese and The Stones/Dylan.
I'm.... not sure? I can't tell yet if they are utterly ridiculous, or actually groundbreaking. It's very Talking Heads, but the singer is perhaps a bit much. Sounds like he's muttering and howling behind the walls of a padded cell. I really don't know if I like them yet or not. They've certainly got SOMETHING going on.
Having different physical and digital cover art makes a completist like myself feel very uncomfortable.
Seems like he's got most of 2019 covered with this one song actually.
I'm here for the "duh" as well
I hate grammar/spelling police, but I just want it to be known that it is "hear, hear". I have seen a lot of people lately writing "here here" and I felt the time had come to rectify this trend. Other than that, I totally agree with your point. I hate phones recording at shows more than anything.
The pop gods (goddesses) have combined and balance is once again restored to the universe!
