while simultaneously fanning the flames of “freedom” from it
i bet him and carrey, as neighbors, have enjoyed a psychedelic or two together
“i haven’t even listened yet” - you’ve said enough.
you know he’s talking about OPN right?
the weeknd’s music must be beneath you! how impressed am I by your love of Bach.
seriously - wtf is a “rough chain of causation”. did you recently read your first Noam Chomsky book?
WOD is for sure Bret Easton Ellis-core so this all makes sense
sometimes i feel like a baby boomer when i read someone’s assertion that a voiceover on a pop album that is talking about the inevitability of death and learning how to accept it is actually “advice” on how to navigate a pandemic and we shouldn’t accept it because he is an anti-vaxxer
the alt cover been done way too much recently, too
the aged weeknd album cover is perfect. instantly recognizable, and encapsulating of the albums concept, elevating it to a higher plane. the weeknd, OPN, and max martin really threw RtF’s Romantic Warrior, Quincy Jones era MJ radio pop, and Jim Carey’s brand of existentialism into a cauldron and brewed a mind numbing meditation on regret. Amazing work from an apex pop star.
as a side note - it’s absolutely clear now that Abel is a true Bret Easton Ellis reader.
After Hours was def a step in the right direction. This one is even more a complete a coherent statement. Abel’s deference to his producers’ instrumental passages at certain points throughout the record shows confidence. Undoubtedly his best record yet.
just looked at your comment history…and you’re a self described Roling Stones superfan. do I need to say more about your ambivalence to the weeknd’s music?
saying they had a misunderstanding is downplaying it a bit. i mean that p4k exposè proved the whole thing was practically hogwash.
the people who comment on this site really do amaze me sometimes
Donda set streaming records, had multiple #1s, and was nominated for Grammys. Have you not been paying attention?
frank made the right bet, and even his bet is unlikely…
the fact that this is shorter than 3 minutes >>>>
i genuinely love how much Yorke is a poetry head. his art is littered with shit from the deepest cuts of the poetry art form.
would you rather he didn’t put in as much effort as possible? what a lame criticism.
cmon ybb u know damn well Abel was using fruity loop soft synths with the cheapest reverb plug-in he could afford before he blew up.
i didn’t like the 80s toolset that the Weeknd worked with on After Hours, but it’s vision on concept made it a worthwhile experience. Seems like Abel is shooting for the same goals with this record, with a different sonic palette. This could be an all timer.
i think a more accurate circumstance for the weeknd procuring a DX-7 would be from a failing noise act in Silver Lake, but that’s just me.
is there a cooler duo making music right now? seriously, any other group/band/artist could not pull this song off. the earnestness and directness of lyrics like “do you remember when” would sound corny from anyone else. 10/10.
is that Kim Kardashian in the trailer video?
respectfully, neither song has any hallmarks of jam band music. they may sound very trust-fund-y, but at best both of the songs you’ve cited sound like dave matthew’s band but not disco biscuits, umphreys mcgee, or moe (the real jam bands of that era).
growing up in York, PA, realizing that *music* was a much bigger thing than just the noise that came out of the radio at the exact same time that a band from your town was the biggest thing in the world for that very brief moment in time was earth shattering.
even saying the *aesthetic* of the album is jam band-y is kind of a reach
agree 100% and it’s sad that the premium for new records on wax is probably not even going to the artists :(
beautiful piece of art frank shared with everyone yesterday. the wim hof method is legit. i been doing the cold showers practice for two years now, and it truly is an amazing de-stresser.
synecdoche new york is the one that gets better for me with every rewatch
the chorus/hook does not pay off the way you expect it to - in a bad way
wait…so you didn’t know that grimes grew up pretty rich? not musk-level rich, but enough to believe the spoon was made of pure silver?
yeah they targeted the block as a place of “gang activity” even thought it wasn’t. idk what kinda point you are trying to make - seems like you’re agreeing with me.
