Home Alone was my least favorite song off A Productive Cough but damn A Letter Home is a stunner
That Julia Holter song is breathtaking; I cannot believe we're getting another 80+ minutes of music like that in just a month
I saw The Men tear up Gates of Steel in 2013 in a bar in Cleveland the same year I saw The Flaming Lips butcher it. Go see The Men live if they tour again, they rip
Sober Motel is so fucking colossal that I could easily see the full album coming in as a dark horse AOTY candidate
Their are some crazy good vegan burgers and cheeses out there now. You take an Impossible Burger or Beyond Meat patty with a Follow Your Heart or Miyoko's cheese slice and woo-wee you got yourself some good eatin
I just picture people who say "females" as one of these fellas, which is almost as bad http://www.startrek.com/uploads/assets/db_articles/0379b23e9845c9c652488c13f7bb557fc62a3642.jpg
In 4 years I saw Titus Andronicus play 5 incredible shows in 5 different cities. This year I'll get to see them play Cleveland's grimiest dive bar for the 2nd time and I cannot wait. Last time they were here the whipped out Huey Lewis' The Heart of Rock & Roll and Icona Pop's I Love It along with (S)HE SAID / (S)HE SAID 2 years before its release, so I've got very high expectations for this one.
I feel like the problem here was the perception of deception on Justin's part. You can't just go from having heavy hitters like Chance, Paul Simon, Wilco, and Feist to arguably just The National and have the gall to raise prices at the same time. I completely agree with the others that have argued that if Justin and Aaron wanted to approach the festival this way, they should have lowered prices and made it clear that it would be a lowkey, collab-heavy arts and music fest. Instead, many people were led to believe this would be like previous editions or Homecoming which it wasn't at all
There's a National fan group on Facebook called Sorrowposting and someone posted a video of most of the show
Ahem, Kasidy Yates was a freighter captain, not a commander, and though Sisko started out as a commander he was a captain for the majority of the series.
Speaking of Russell Crowe, does anyone else follow his Twitter love affair with Alex Cameron and Roy Molloy?
This is really great; hopefully we get album/tour news soon!
I thought Birdman was deserving as well as Moonlight, but yeah other than those two I agree
Definitely. I'm hoping Haley has the same kind of rise as someone like Sharon Van Etten or Angel Olsen where they quietly release incredible albums until everyone wakes the fuck up and realizes the greatness
I love a lot of this list but Caroline Rose and Haley Heynderickx made the best albums of the year so far and their omission here is a travesty 1. Haley Heynderickx - I Need To Start A Garden 2. Caroline Rose - LONER 3. U.S. Girls - In A Poem Unlimited 4. Father John Misty - God's Favorite Customer 5. Hop Along - Bark Your Head Off, Dog 6. Lucy Dacus - Historian 7. Beach House - 7 8. Ezra Furman - Transangelic Exodus 9. A.A.L - 2012-2017 10. Jon Hopkins - Singularity
Very grateful for the end of the IDLES coverage drought here. This band is a gift and it's great to see them get coverage here. Also, as mentioned by others here go see them live no matter the distance, they're one of the best new acts around.
Flasher are great and I'm glad they got the spotlight this week, but I've gotta ask why IDLES haven't been covered? Their 2017 album Brutalism was one of the best albums of the year and newly announced album is shaping up to be just as great. Get on them asap ya hear?
You hit the nail on the head here. Every time I see some music blog bemoaning US tests I cringe a bit because even though the large ones are garbage, there are still dozens of wonderfully run and curated small fests that shine year after year. You mentioned Homecoming, which joined other stellar artist-curated festivals like Eaux-Claires and Solid Sound in that group. Just this past weekend I went to Nelsonville Music Festival, which doesn't make waves at a national level but is easily the best festival I've been to. The lineup didn't have many big names but the people booking the fest keep their ears to the ground in a big way and booked tons of acts that could be playing main stages at these mega-fests in a few years.
As someone who was also a child in 2003, I can affirm that Holes is a GREAT movie, albeit one that I haven't seen again since. Also I really dug the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie. It had a great cast and did a good job adapting the source material, though it's really hard to beat the books.
Alright someone convince me to make the 8.5 hour drive for this. This lineup is insane
I love this band so much. Even though it's been 7 years this record is shaping up to be just as strong as Eye Contact and Saint Dymphna
The Hell is Real one is definitely still there, I just passed it going to Homecoming fest last week
They sounded incredible and gave off sound serious Crazy Horse vibes. Around half the set was new material and it was all stellar, especially Not and The Toy
This festival was one of the most moving and life-affirming experiences I've ever had. It was breathtaking in every way and I hope it continues for years and years to come.
It was only $10 for the Cleveland show! I tried to make up for it by picking up the IaPU, Half Free, and Darlene Shrug LPs but man I hope they're making decent money from this tour.
I'll second the AOTYSF assertion. They also put on a fantastic live show, everything Ryan said about it is accurate.
Skip it, I'm sure they'll understand
Eye Contact is still one of the best albums of the decade and this is a stellar return. I can't wait for the album and dear lordy I hope they tour near me.
Those driving guitars are giving me some serious "The Monitor" vibes. Can't wait for this album!
Oh fuck that bullshit, we all know he meant what he said the first time. He's been peddling this evil, far-right garbage for a long time now and is only backpedaling because it might impact his album/concert sales.
I would put money down on him being at least a semi-regular visitor to /pol/ on 4chan, Breitbart, and maybe even The_Donald on reddit. Dude's idiotic views are 100% in line with those cesspools
hey Lizzo is great. Educate yourself my man.
It's a mixed bag for me; I really dig the singles, the closer, and love (I'm) Like A Rolling Stone, but man Home Alone and Real Talk are just almost completely uninteresting. Like, fuckin Home Alone is 8+ minutes long but it's basically just one line.
