hell yeah, never been fully on the bandwagon, but the frankly more ramshackle nature of these songs has me more excited to listen to the whole thing. Listening to "Time Escaping" and it's almost like there's a Grateful Dead live guitar riff underneath a tune-yards song. It's great!
I came back independently to say…. ME REX is a band that, even loving a lot of their songs/EPs, man, I hear so much potential in them. The EP is gonna be a default for me for the coming months. Whenever they fully realize their potential, it’s gonna be astounding.
Have you checked out Megabear?
Got the chance to dig in to some new albums last night/this morning. Saba, BC,NR, ME REX, and Pinegrove - all range somewhere from pretty dang good to great!
I listened to the DC show last night and today, and this version of Eyes To The Wind was incredible, and all the IDLHA sound even better than the studio version. Fuck.
wod in six nights, the setlists look amazing and the tapes I’ve listened to sound amazing. Over the moon about it.
February and March are already looking fucking stacked.
Top 3 are all personal faves, what a great week. I find RBCF just so endlessly undeniable.
Don’t sleep on Young Guv - so so impressed by just how dang catchy each of these singles have been from Guv III.
I told a friend he might like em and said “if you like one rolling blackouts song you probably like em all.” He put on Talking Straight and said “oh, this is sick” and I knew then I minted a new fan.
Great band! if you have any predilection for twee or Michigan/Illinois/Adz era Sufjan Stevens I don't know how you couldn't be into this 2022 version of it.
Them saying “It’s almost an anti-concept album" and "the title reflects our love of creating worlds in our songs. We treat each of them as a bare room to be built up with infinite possibilities" is exactly what i want from these dudes. No big ideas, just big chunes, big chunes.
We litigated this to death during the wod rollout in the fall, and then Joe Howse himself showed up to clarify.
Howseing involved holding out on LEAKS primarily. The purity is catching the first full album listen on the record player. Joe Howse listened to the Beach House singles, but waited until he could put the full record down on the record player for the first album listen. It blew our stupid little minds to learn this.
Interestingly, this makes a very interesting time capsule of the time before true streaming hegemony when leaks were still predictable and reliable. I miss that era so much.
