"Oh poor me drug dealer i didnt know i was giving her something laced with Fentanyl" YEA ASSHOLE NO ONE DOES THATS WHY YOU DONT FUCKING SELL THIS SHIT ON THE STREET
Like, who needs help affording groceries when they shopping at fucking WHOLE FOODS?! Next thing you know Musk is gonna start helping people out down at the Tesla dealership.
“She doesn’t try and make you feel good in spite of whatever sadness you’re carrying. Rather, she makes sadness feel yet like an actively positive sensation.”
Seriously maybe one of the best things I’ve had the pleasure to read about CRJ and maybe music in general. Great write up.
That suuuucks!! I kinda know how u feel bc at their Chicago show Julian was having sound issues/drunk/angry and ended up walking off stage and not finishing the set and I NEVER EVEN GOT TO HEAR PYRAMID OF BONES. I was pretty devastated.
i read this comment right after watching that lady karaoke missy so i thought u were referring to her for a second. I was about to get way defensive over a woman i just discovered.
I believe they are playing at the Riv and if thats the case I just always have to suggest going to Sun Wah BBQ beforehand. Get the whole roasted duck, which is definitely best shared with like 2 other people. Their egg rolls are the bomb too.
I feel like im becoming just a little country baby. Some other country-ish stuff i have found super good sounding this year:

i can listen to the album every day. I've probably given it over 50 spins and it still just never gets old. The last time an album did that for me was A Seat at The Table.
IDK, I didn’t ending up minding her rearrangements as much as I thought I would. It seemed like even though she was rearranging her vocals, the band largely stayed true to the original arrangements, making it easier for me to at least sing along by myself even when she was doing her own thing haha. And I actually LOVED this performance. One of my favs of the weekend. I actually got a little misty-eyed twice, once for “Every Ghetto, Every City” (just because that song is my fucking JAM and I couldn’t believe I was actually seeing it be performed live after 20 years) and then for “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” (because that song is fucking beautiful and SHE HIT THOSE NOTES! I actually had full body chills at this moment) I can’t even say that this set surpassed expectations, because with everything you hear about her erraticism lately, I genuinely didn’t know what to expect. What it did do was match what I had formed in my imagination as the perfect Lauryn Hill performance at this point in her career. I knew she was gonna play with arrangements. Not much I can do about that, but everything else was damn near perfect. I won’t be able to get it out of my mind for days.
Other highlights of the weekend for me were Tame Impala (that light show was enough in and of itself to warrant a headlining set), D.R.A.M (the most fun I had the entire weekend and he played EVERY song from his incredible new EP), Kelela (didn’t love her setlist but she fuckin brought it anyways and is the Queen so she can do whatever she wants), Blood Orange (he performed new songs and the Empress Of track so it was a win for me) and Zola Jesus (who surprised the fuck out of me and absolutely owned the ginormous Green Stage.)
Funny thing that actually happened to me: My friend had some sort of Chakra stone with her which I asked to see and then she told me to hold it for a bit to transfer some good vibes. I quickly got tired of holding it a handed it back to her. About one minute later we are bombarded by Police who take us away. They ask us if we knew why we were being “detained” and after expressing confusion they told us they witnessed us performing a drug transaction. We were able to explain what they actually saw and I think they felt silly and let us go.
TLDR: Ms. Lauryn changed my life and I was almost arrested for an illegal exchange of good energy.
She was amazing. Everyone fucking loved it. When she started “Frontline” the crowd acted like she was Queen about to play “Bohemian Rhapsody”. It was insane. So happy for her and here’s to hoping Ms Lauryn isn’t 1.5 hours late tonight ❤️
