Judging by the venue sizes this tour, it feels like they’ve rebounded pretty well from whatever happened a few years ago? I still don’t comprehend the saga there.
Sun Coming Down is an all-timer. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L-KdrAVh52I
I’ve seen St. Vincent on a few different tours, and the show on the Strange Mercy tour was an all-timer. Truly knocked me on my ass.
I remember going into Pitchfork ‘09 people being unsure how The National’s subdued Boxer would translate to a festival headliner set. They had been touring the album for 2 years at that point and figured out how to make those songs scale into anthems. “The Hustle” is an all-timer.
I’ve been loving this project. I’d like read the lyrics and try and make sense of the story they’re telling.
“Neutrogena Spektor” is a great song name. I wonder what Joanna Gruesome are up to these days.
Had to confirm this wasn’t a No Age cover. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j5XqOv150dQ
It took me a while to get onboard with NFR, but it’s continued to grow on me and is one of my favorite albums in recent year. On first listen, I agree this album seems intentionally less ambitious than NFR. Will give it more time before I form an opinion, but I’m glad it not being met with the intense backlash Tom alluded to.
20 years ago I don’t think many people would have bet on blink-182 aging into better pop-punk elder statesmen than Green Day, but here we are.
Is this the first Something Corporate reference on Stereogum? Is 2001-2003 Drive-Thru records output gonna get the 20th Anniversary treatment over the next few years?
