Last Great American Dynasty #1, especially ever since I heard the lyrics in my head as "there goes, the baddest motherfucker we've ever seen"
Kinda hard to believe neither Taylor nor the National already have a song called Coney Island
This is still my favourite version I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5p1ZwJD3dno
I think the Prince songs might be my favourite recurring write-ups in this column
This is excellent, hope this album gets a lot of attention cos it feels like the last album was pretty slept on, Thirty was some of the best songwriting of the last decade
Thought the Gorillaz 'album' was an easy runaway winner for wildest feature list of the year but dang
Jesus, how do you miss that one? Really challenging the grammys for the most incompetent music awards show atm guys
Certainly tall enough to, from my understanding
Also for what ever reason I couldn't comment on the Quarter Life Crisis post, but I just wanted to put it out there that Hand Habits rules and Duffy elevates everything they appear on
Those classic Palberta harmonies are great every time but I think this is my favourite iteration of them so far
Also that cocaine list is entertaining on its own; for most songs (esp Miami Vice theme, obviously) you can pretty well tell how cocaine comes into it without even revisiting the review
Incredible work Tom, it's a genuine juggernaut at this point, absolutely loving it and couldn't even count how many people i've talked to in the real world about it over the last three years
Surely sole-owner Emperor Lapatine will keep Invisible Touch on the right side of the scoreboard
This was the song I always played first when I was opening the bar I worked at this year. Over the last few years it has attached itself to a lot of good moments in my life, none as special and beautiful as Jimmie's story but what a nice thing to read just before going to sleep
This is a real good band
Woah left field, based off the songs released so far I thought Ela Minus or Gorillaz had it in the bag
I can't wait to hear the rest of this album but I can't believe how little noise i've heard for Open Mike Eagle! That guy has been killing it! I dunno, maybe I should focus on how good this week has been instead of how OME is the 8th(!) on the lineup of releases this week
Yeah as much as I want to hear Dream Wife covering Robyn there's only one exclusive covers comp for me
song >shirt >>>hat
Shiiiet opening with Ocean Between the Waves https://media.giphy.com/media/dvfxNv1bLKifS/giphy.gif
Big week when neither Roisin or the New Gorillaz/6LACK/Elton can crack the 5
This is valuable research, please post any results
So good! Big thanks as well to jloo who put me onto Wolfsheim in the Romy comment section, filled a 90s german synthpop shaped hole in my week
When the vocals came in over Hurt I had to pause and walk a lap
Shit yeah, put that drum beat on everything
Wild, absolutely knocked it out of the park, also pretty wild how much of a Jeff Rosenstock fan Seth Meyers seems to be? Don't know what I'd guess his style to be but that intro seemed genuine?
Not sure what song I would replace there but I couldn't have a top 10 without Sitting Still, so underrated
I just realised I haven't listened to OPN since being put through the wringer by Good Time, but now I think I'm ready to love again
I'm on the fence about reinterpretations, this one being a Bezos exclusive is a point for the negatives
Two years ago I was at a wedding reception where they had a dj but also this random guy walking around playing infuriating saxophone fills along with whatever the dj played. After being hounded for it by drunk uncles all night the dj finally played baker street and the got dang saxman was in the bathroom. Great first bonus track though! Keen for the rest of them
I'm no expert here, but I don't think it's as much about scamming people as it is about media/social media manipulation and strategically placing information in the path of specific, targeted populations. It's not so much about a specific individual, it's about identifying trends in the online habits of different demographics and the vulnerabilities that these online habits carry.
An EP of songs more frenetic and unhinged than full blown meltdown sounds siiiick
I like the song, hate that the verses remind me of Something Stupid
This is pretty good! Seems like this album is going a milder version of Pure Comedy, which definitely didn't exactly suffer from being too mild.
This is my favourite of the singles so far, absolute beaut
