This is just absolutely breathtaking. The harmonies! The thick surges! The lead vocal! Oh!
She’s great at conveying the oppressive atmosphere of solitude, which is perfect for this tale. You can hear the history of the character in her voice, not just the result.
Pretty admirable job, to my ears. It’s really fucking difficult to shift a song that’s intended to be howled at full volume into something more forlorn and delicate. The final verse felt a little dashed off, though.
Throwing Muses are untouchably glorious. I love them hard.
As for Belly, my favorite is the original recording of “Low red moon” from the Slow Dust EP (which also includes an excellent alternate version of “Dusted” at the end!).
