To be fair, you absolutely can. As someone who loves The Caretaker, you absolutely can simulate vinyl.
I've listened through the album about 5 times. Like others have said, I'm captivated but I'm not sure I love it. Hard to say if I will return to it or it will be on regular rotation. Would love an instrumentals version. Interesting, challenging and arresting collection of songs.
The amount of shittakes LosingMyEdge spews out is truly staggering
And how "For Y'all" or "Take Care" weren't pushed to radio is beyond me :(
BTG had some absolutely legendary songs (DADDY'S BIRTHDAY anyone????). The problem with his latest efforts are that they're either unfocused/scatterbrained (BTG) or too short (Jeffery). Barter 6 went for the full style/mood and it's still his most 'complete' record in my eyes. I think he would really benefit from a heavily-promoted, exclusively produced album from either Weezy, London or Metro -- take your pick, he could kill it with any of them. His problem - if you could call it one - is that he records records records, but lacks focus beyond the visual aspects of an album roll-out, which he is exceedingly great at. The problem is him or his team not packaging these releases to form any sort of coherent album from a musical standpoint. His songs stand by themselves and are usually great, but taken as a whole they're just songs stacked against each other, save for Barter 6.
Oh yes. That's a big hitter. Now I just want a collab retrospective of the last 18 years. The Mouse and The Mask came out in '05...
Looking like London is heavily involved in Barter 7, so you may get your wish. I'm hoping for that. They squandered a Metro/Thug tape when that could've made considerable impact. Hopefully the next full length can be a focused effort. BTG could've been that album, but they didn't promote it for shit.
Love that one too -- good call. And I don't mean to start a list here but I would be remiss not to mention Pinata too.
Imma let you finish but ... Tha Tour Pt. 1 is still the greatest collab of the century. (Drip Harder is fucking amazing and I love these dudes)
No. Although I concede that her takedown of Elon made my day.
Cool troll account, Chad.
Great piece, Tom.
If the last few days have taught us anything, its that Em's lil Stan army on Twitter may be the most obnoxious, dull-headed fanbases on the internet. It's really no surprise, but their knee-jerk reactions to the deserved negative publicity from Em and this record are really something. A lot of these people are the same mother fuckers that jumped on the Kanye bandwagon the moment he donned the MAGA hate, imagine that.
I hope J makes these albums for as long as he can. Beautiful music.
Love Future but this sounds like a datpiff mixtape from 2012
Album of the year contender. Denzel is a real ass dude.
I can't stop watching this.
NO ONE IS TOUCHING DENZEL RIGHT NOW. PERIOD.
Please stop saying "bops." Otherwise, great comment.
Wouldn't a more apt comparison be between Tierra Whack and someone like Lil Pump? I don't know, I'm Charles Barkley.
All I have to say is: FINALLY. Insanely inventive album/visual and she has a great, generous Twitter personality. Excited to see where she goes after Whack World. Until then, it's on repeat. Excited for the Gum regulars to dig in.
This entire thing makes me so sad.
At first I was like NO, then I was like OH.
If you're not careful, I'll bodyslam your ass.
You gotta stop commenting on rap threads. Your takes are consistently awful.
Everything At Once is from Majesty Shredding. :)
Seriously, who authorized Stereogum to post this?
