I forgot that p4k still reviews bands I care about. I don't remember the last time I discovered something new from that website. I'm just so glad we have Stereogum to enjoy our music discussion.
But it is how the general music fan sees them. I saw them put in an amazing love show (unsurprisingly) but the crowd really only came alive for “the song”. I for one though really like their latest album though
I absolutely hated Spencer, not even his score could save that one for me. Power of the Dog felt more like his score, maybe its just the western vibe but really reminded me of There Will Be Blood.
They tried the exclusivity thing, well not Spotify. But when tidal had the Jay Z and Rihanna albums and Apple had the Frank Ocean album people were annoyed. I guess those deals didn’t pull in enough revenue to keep the idea of exclusivity going.
Thanks! The late 90s is just before my time musically came of age in early-mid 00s so it’s a blind spot for me. I will absolutely check out that album.
Damn, I just got really into Failure recently ironically enough because "Another Space Song" showed up in my Spotify discover weekly. Though you can just listen to the whole album on bandcamp even without paying.
Maybe Moz is upset more at what's not said or pointedly avoided, like when Johnny Marr called Isaac Brock the best lyricist he ever worked with. Man I'd love for Johnny Marr to rejoin Modest Mouse, but that woudl really mean we'd need more music about 6 years sooner than Brock's ready for.
Crazy that's been 14 years since Brighten the Corners got it's reissue. I remember there was talk about this getting the same treatment the next year, what took so long? I still haven't listened to this as I was initially waiting for that reissue back when all my music was on CD.
From the initial synth which sounds like what OPN did for Uncut Gems I was hooked. This is a really cool album, a concept that isn't too in your face or corny. The radio interludes remind of Songs for the Deaf as much as they do OPN's Magic. The main difference is the instrumentals behind these interludes is more engaging and I don't want to skip (sorry Songs for the Deaf).
