Quickest way to out yourself as someone who doesn’t listen to Future Islands is to claim everything they’ve released since Singles sounds the same. I get it, it’s an easy claim to make. I’d take The Far Field and especially As Long as You Are over the last Beach House record, personally. They’re really not comparable anyway. Beach House is more sound-first and FI more emotion-first.
Hey Beach House fans, give Future Islands a deeper listen! Anyway, getting off my fandom soap box now.
I subscribed to the Substack for a few months. They actually do release a lot of exclusive goodies on there. Mostly novelties for fans, but if you are one, it’s worth a month or two at least.
Liberating Guilt and Fear was SO COOL and not to be missed if you've only heard the debut. I'm really eager to hear this, even with the other massive releases this week! Sigh, and I was ready to fully ignore Big Thief until yesterday's review got me to listen to the excellent advance tracks...
I’m happy to see my favorite performances nominated: Garfield in “tick, tick…BOOM!” and Jessica Chastain in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” This was a pretty decent year for movies. If Dune doesn’t win all the sound and design awards I’ll be shocked.
Rachel I want you to know that only your clever reference to Something Corporate (a beloved old fave) could have gotten me to click on a Machine Gun Kelly / Willow Smith joint. This whole article was a blast!
Loved Capacity. I've been slowly getting bored by Big Thief since then. I listened to the eight advance tracks today and hooooly shit! They're roping me back in.
Fell in love with his voice and presence on Little Simz' "Point and Kill" last year. I'm excited to hear the full project, because this taste is tasty!
Who is this band? Were they big when they first came out? I ask because "Maya" caught my attention in a big way, especially for such a seemingly simple song. I'm v intrigued by the effect their music has on me.
